  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

IM all us guys pictures! ROFL!!!!

I should post a picture of my cousin. She's never left the country - and she's gorgeous. Married, with two babies - and just beautiful. Can handle a shotgun, goes fishing, hunting, big ole hound dogs in the yard, charming Southern country accent. So yes, kind of like Daisy Duke.

But she doesn't dress in quite as short shorts. I think everyone would be scandalized. Pretty much everyone up there does go to church, after all.

Lol!

Didn't you see the part about married with two babies? I don't think her husband would appreciate it.

And didn't you see the part about her being able to handle a shotgun? She's liable to come after me ... (J/k)

Actually she has photos floating around FB - some kind of contest by a local photographer. But no - I'm just here to testify as to the existence of beautiful country girls. Not get myself in trouble!

Purely a curiosity question: is your cousin also EO? I ask because I imagine that most rural areas don't have an EO church, though I'm open to surprises. :D

Oh no. No, there is no EO Church near her, and I seriously doubt she's ever heard of it. No, dyed-in-the-wool Baptist, and not particularly aware that there IS any other kind of Church. But a deep and abiding love for and trust in God.

Praying for her little wee one right now, less than a month old and with a nasty virus. Lord have mercy.

If you'd said, "Yeah, there's an EO parish in the middle of a cornfield," my mouth would've dropped open. :screamcat: In all seriousness, though, I think that her love for and trust in God carry more weight than any religious label. Seems like she's in a good place, both materially- and spiritually-speaking.

Adding my prayers for swift and complete healing of her little one. :prayer:

Thank you for your prayers.

Yes, I appreciate your sentiments. My family was all Baptist on my mother's side. My great-grandmother was very devout. I remember staying overnight with her and she included me in her nightly prayers ... it seemed she prayed forever! And when I finally understood that ALL people sin, I used to sit and look at her and think about that. I could not imagine her sinning in any way (in my child's mind). The "worst" thing I ever saw her do was to tell me that she could possibly get angry. Even that shocked me (she never did). She was a farmer's wife, getting the family to the little Baptist church several miles away in a horse-drawn wagon every Sunday, raising godly children. She gave birth to ten - a few died in childhood or young adulthood, but the rest became teachers, nurses, and missionaries. Most of those who were not full-time missionaries went for periods of time to serve.

None of them probably ever heard of the Orthodox Church, but I cannot believe that a lifetime of loving God and living to serve Him, and others for His sake - meant nothing. There were gaps in our family in terms of faith, and prodigals. Faith wasn't wholly passed down as it should have been (especially to my branch) - and yet every one of them at some point came back to Christ (with the possible exception of one cousin but I expect I'll hear the same about him). I think it was probably the prayers of my great-grandmother that accomplished this. The others didn't spend time with her in childhood as I did, but I'm sure her prayers were with them. Those forever-lasting prayers at night were usually for her many descendants.

Lord have mercy on her. No one prayed for the rest (repose) of anyone in our family, since as Baptists we were told that was forbidden. But I pray for her and the others now. And yes, I think my cousin is a Christian, in spite of never having heard of the Church. I'm waiting to see how things will go with my recently-converted brother, who goes to a very progressive fellowship (it barely calls itself a church, and I can't bring myself to do so) ... but he updates his Facebook with devotional messages daily, and they have a decidedly promising flavor to them. So I comment on the really good parts. I believe he is in a good place spiritually too.

Sorry for the ramble. I like to look at where I've come from sometimes. :)
