  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

Ohh dear lord, that's pretty frightening for a female I would think, you did a better job then I did. Due to my flawed sinful nature, and wanting to protect my family, I'd probably wouldnt Communion for a very long time, if you get my drift.

Christopher Reeves was the best Superman, period. He had it all--the looks, the million dollar smile, the sincerity, the toughness, and the kindness. He was great at playing a square geek in Kent, but able to melt hearts at Supes. I am prejudiced, of course, since I grew up on him, but I still think he's tops. Cavill lacks something. He is a bit of a darker Superman, less twinkle, less charisma. But we must remember that Henry's Superman is NOT the same origin story as other incarnations. He is the Superman of the 1980's DC reboot. Apples and oranges.

The more I watch Man of Steel, the more I like it. It's not something you instantly fall in love with. It takes a few swigs. On the other hand, the Chris Nolan Batman movies make you fall head over heels in seconds!

This new cheesy Lex Luthor is like a drunken or high buddy that shows up at a Bar Mitzva or wedding high as a kite and you don't know whether to laugh or totally 10000% pity him. Awkward, uncomfortable, lame, sad, not funny, odd. That Eisenberg kid just seems like he's trying WAY TOO HARD and paradoxically he comes out empty.

That's a good way to put it. Maybe that's why I liked the Batman story and character much better than I did the Superman. I agree with your actor comments too - especially Lex Luthor. He was - weird.

My wife doesn't care about his acting.

Look, this is coming from a guy with 41 years of staunch and proud, dedicated heterosexuality, so I can say this securely----have you SEEN Cavill? Lord have mercy.

Oh, the Superman guy, lol. I have to look up almost every celebrity mentioned since I only know a handful of them.

Eh - he was ok in the role. I still think Christopher Reeve made the best Superman ever.

Eh ...

Sorry, not so much. Again, i brought up a bunch of images. In two of them, there's a bit of engaging intensity to his gaze that I can appreciate. But oh well. I mean from a technical standpoint I can appreciate that he is what pretty much everyone would say us good-looking. He has nice features. He'd make a nice model for a sculptor. But no, I guess I'm not greatly impressed.

I think there is something else I tend to notice. An energy? Personality? I don't know. But no, I'm not especially caring one way or another about him in the role in this film.

Christopher Reeve had that whatever-it-is.

oh yeah, the part with the candy was just.....odd. I think his writing fell into the 90's comic book villain trap of trying to be insane and entertaining like Jack Nicholson's Joker from 1989 Batman, and failing.

So, my husband and I are trying to eat healthier and I are cutting out things like bread, pasta, sugar, etc. Two weeks in, we will add in whole grains and good carbs. It's only been 5 days, but I am craving for a good quality roll or even a sweet potato or brown rice. I'm doing this type of diet since my husband is very much a meat eater, but as someone who eats primarily vegetarian plus a bit of seafood - cutting out a bunch of carbs is tough! Thankfully we are still having fruit. My peach with dinner tonight was delicious.

On the night I got Chrismated we went to a local diner who is owned by a Greek Orthodox man - he goes to a parish in another town. There's no Greek parish here. Anyway, on our way out, I said I'd try to bring my husband but wouldn't mention that the diner is Orthodox owned. The very next night Hubman said to me, "Did you know there's another diner down on High Street? We should go there sometime." Hehe.
