  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

Careful, don't give poor Gurney a heart attack. You gotta imagine them a little more "grown up" too. I think my daughter was 17 or18.

She wore a short skirt with leggings though. Covered more than shorts. The top covered her as well, but the style - ugh. Rather close fitting and laced all the way up. Sleeves were lace up arm gloves. Too much for a mom almost.

I'd probably die if I saw her as the HQ y'all are describing. Like I said, glad it didn't come out before the costume!

All those shameful things in movies and music videos though, those are all some bodies daughters.

I seriously enjoyed them (even the third film everyone hated), but I just detested the LGBT allegories Singer stuck in there and that continued. Rus and I have talked about this.

oh that started in the comics before the movies. X-Men also had the first comic gay wedding in it.

lemme know what you think!
Well, I'm not as deeply steeped in the series as y'all are. (Though I daresay I go further back! I used to have a Batman LP and I used to wear a makeshift cape and run around my room like a tiny madman whenever the theme song played ;) years before y'all were born).

Anyway - yes it was a lot darker. I'm used to Batman and Superman both being heroes in every sense of the word, and this show introduced a bit of a question mark there. As a theme and for the sake of the story, it was decidedly more interesting - what authority should they be answerable to, and are there reasons to limit their exercise of power? The competition between the two - again, it was confusion for the character roles, but a point of interest for the plot.

Early on it was difficult to follow every single thing that happened and how it played in, but as I hoped, it all began to make sense soon and left me without confusion there. The story was good enough - not overly confused, and with enough twists to keep it interesting.

The Batman character was better than I'd have thought. I actually really liked the Wonder Woman character. I rather hoped she would get hold of the kryptonite weapon, but that would have killed the cliffhanger. Superman has to come back. You just can't kill Superman - that ruins the whole story. The Superman character was ok - I liked the suit but another actor might have been either better or worse. Alfred seemed odd to be so young but I liked him. Lex Luthor I didn't even recognize as his character. He was - weird. If you're going for psycho he scores points in building that up but otherwise - eh.

I was interested in the whole reference to the "how can a good God let bad things happen" and how it played into the story, but I haven't decided how I feel about what they did with it from a Christian perspective. I think maybe it was too underdeveloped to be anything useful, which might be good because I suspect their intent might have been against Christianity overall if they had skillfully woven it in.

I really liked it. It kept my attention, and that's not really easy for movies to do anymore. Too many of them are dull, predictable, crass, or otherwise uninspiring.

I'd give it a solid 3.5-4 stars out of 5, with the caveat that I reserve 5 stars for my favorite handful of movies. 3 usually means "like".

Yeah, I know. I have a good girl though. My 3 kids are just awesome. We've raised them right and I think the Lord has taken hold of them deeply. My daughter is going to be quite a looker, no doubt, but we'll survive!

Lol Zaida, I told you!

It gets worse when they get older Gurney - not easier!

My wife would likely give it 6 out of 5 stars because Henry Cavill is in it! LOL!!!!

Oh, the Superman guy, lol. I have to look up almost every celebrity mentioned since I only know a handful of them.

Eh - he was ok in the role. I still think Christopher Reeve made the best Superman ever.

May it be as you say. :)

I must have done something right with my daughter, or else I can at least point to MANY prayers. Well, I should do that anyway. Of course I raised her as best I could, and had serious talks of faith with her from the time she was 4 or 5. But we were in a heterodox church, which was drifting into emotionalism. She rejected the church at 12, and by then her father and his employee/girlfriend/partner were working very hard to undermine her faith. Followed by years of not having any contact while they continued those efforts, and a great deal of mistrust they built in her toward me, which she also generalized to Christianity because it is a large part of who I am. That was a lot to overcome. Yet still, she is seeking God again, and making sacrifices for her faith. I'd say she's a little confused about what is truth, but the funny thing is when I got her back several years ago, she had already started to build a foundation of orthodox truth that she didn't get from me (sadly). Before I found the Church, she was more Orthodox-leaning than I was. But some of the high school indoctrination also undermined some of that. But I think back to the SPIRIT I saw in her throughout her childhood, and that is what I clung to the memory of. I prayed for her every night, and have prayed for her sooooo many times over these difficult years. God willing, she will be ok. I keep praying though.

I agreed with the honest trailers guy that it was a good Batman movie inside of a mediocre and boring Superman movie. loved Batman's reveal, his voice, his gadgets, and the warehouse fight scene. Ben did a great job I thought as both Batman and Bruce, Jeremy Irons was solid as Alfred, Wonder Woman was a great spot, etc. Lex was....uncomfortable. I always thought he was better as some Machiavellian nihilist kinda guy, not some insane wackjob.

Wow I actually forgot about him.

I didn't watch Superman until I was older. Ahhhh ..... Hmmmmm. Nah, I still like Christopher Reeve better. Kinda boyish and disarming at points. I thought him rather charming. :)

Iirc George Reeves was too serious. But then I don't remember that well.

That's a good way to put it. Maybe that's why I liked the Batman story and character much better than I did the Superman. I agree with your actor comments too - especially Lex Luthor. He was - weird.
