  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Zachariah took over from his father Jeroboam II as king of Israel (verse 8).

This fulfilled Gods promise to Jehu that his sons would reign for 4 generations. Zachariah only reigned for six months.

Zachariah was an evil king. He was murdered by Shallum and Shallum became king (verse 10)

Shallum became king of Israel and Samaria and reigned only for one month.

Menahem murdered Shallum and Menahen became king of Israel (verse 14)

The town of Tiphsah did not accept Menahem as king of Isreal and Samaria.

Therefore Menahem killed everyone in Tiphsah. And pregnant women were ripped open.

Menahem reigned for 10 years (verse 17). Menahem was an evil king.

Pekahiah became king on the death of Menahem his father (verse 22)

Pekahiah was king of Israel for only 2 years. He was an evil king (verse 24)

Pekah murdered Pekahiah and became king of Israel and Samaria.

Brinny,

Those lists of the kings of Israel and Judah helped me greatly during the reading of Chapter 15.

In fact I dont believe anyone could make sense of Chapter 15 without the list of kings to refer to.

We have come to the end of the kings of Israel.

But the kingdom of Judah lasted a lot longer, so there is a long way yet to go with the kings of Judah,

Brinny,

The list of kings of Judah has made this chapter 16 make sense.

Without that list of kings it would be very confusing.

It makes it so simple when you know what king is coming next.

yes, the summary helps...

Hezekiah became King of Judah when he was 25, and he reigned for 29 years. He was a good king. He removed the high places. The Lord was with him and he prospered. Hezekiah rebelled against the King of Assyria. Hezekiah smote the Philistines up to the border of Gaza. The King of Assyria sent an army to subdue Hezekiah but he would not submit.

2 Kings Chapter 18 verse 26 says "Talk not with us in the Jews language". Jews meaning the people living in Judah. Up to this time they had been referred to as the Kingdom of Judah. Israelites lived in the Kingdom of Israel. I belive by this time the Kingdom of Israel had been destroyed for ever.

this is quite glorious..and quite a testimony to this king Hezekiah who was described by God as being righteous like his father David:

3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.

4 He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

5 He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

Hezekiah went to the temple to pray about being attacked by the mighty Assyrian army. The prophet Isaiah said that God would defeat the Assyrian army and the King of Assyria would be killed. The angel of the Lord killed 5,180 soldiers of Assyria. The King of Assyria retreated and went to Nineveh, where he was murdered by his sons. (2 Kings Chapter 19 verse 37)
