  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It would have been as if he was being paid for doing tricks. If he accepted the money, he would've been acknowledging that and blatantly putting God to shame. It was as if Elisha would be getting credit for all that happened. In essence, Elisha would be glorified, and worshiped. The same dynamics as John falling down to worship the angel.

Why was Gehazi struck with leprosy?

Yes Brinny it was clear that miracles must not be sold for money like a business and that is why Gehazi was struck with leprosy.

The miraculous deeds of Elisha continue in Chapter 7

The Syrian host led by Ben-hadad had laid siege to Samaria.

During the night God made noises of chariots and horses of a great host (verse 6)

A important messenger from the King of Israel came to visit Elisha.

Elisha predicted to the king's messeger that the famine would end tomorrow.

Elisha also predicted that the messenger would see it but not eat (verse 2)

The terrifying noise made by God in the night frightened the Syrian host into mass flight.

The Syrians had brought food for a long siege. All this food was left behind.

By the next day, as predicted by Elisha, day the famine in Samaria was over.

The noise from God was so loud that the Syrians had fled in panic (verse 6)

Also as predicted the kings messenger dropped dead the next day.

The kings messenger had insulted God in Chapter 6 verse 33.

So what can we learn from 2 Kings Chapter 7

We leared that Elisha could predict the future about what would happen the next day (verse 1).
With every chapter I am ever more amazed at the miraculous powers that God had given to Elisha.

Thank you for sharing your insights about these chapters...i had missed the fact that the kings messenger had insulted God in chapter 6, vs 33. Looked like he was accusing God of evil.....not very wise...

Brinny,

The kings messenger had insulted of God (Chapter 6 verse 33).
My guess is that he may will have been a worshiper of Baal.

2 Kings Chapter 8

Elisha predicts that a famine is coming and it will last for 7 years.

He warns the woman whose son he raised from the dead, to leave and come back after the famine is over.

Elisha tells Hazael that King Ben-hadad of Syria will die, but suggests that he is told that he will live.

Elisha also says that Hazael will become king of Syria and will cruelly oppress Israel.

When Jehoshaphat died his son Jehoram became King of Judah. Jehoram was an evil king.

When Jehoram died his son Ahaziah became King of Judah. Ahaziah was an evil king.

From chapter 8 we learn that both Israel and Judah both had evil kings at this time.

Wonderin' why Elisha anointed Hazael as king.......maybe it was the same reason Samuel anointed Saul......

Brinny,

Elisha could predict the future. Elisha predicted that Hazael would be king of Syria.

Elisha was very unhappy about this, because he knew that Hazael would oppress Israel in the years to come.

The Death of Jezebel

2 Kings Chapter 9

Elisha sent a prophet to see Jehu son of Jehoshaphat. Jehu was told he was to smite the house of Ahab, and that dogs were to eat the body of Jezebel.

Jehu killed Joram King of Israel. Jehu also killed Ahaziah King of Judah (verse 24)

Jezebel painted her face and awaited the arrival of Jehu (verse 30)

Jehu told the people of Jezreel to throw Jezebel out of the window (verse 33)

After eating a meal Jehu ordered that Jezebel be buried.

But all they could find were her skull, feet and the palms of her hands (verse 35)

Jehu kills all the worshipers of Baal

2 Kings Chapter 10

Jehu first killed all the 70 sons of Ahab (verse 8)

Jehu then killed all the kinsfold and priests of Ahab (verse 11)

Jehu then killed all the 42 brethren of evil King Ahaziah of Judah (verse 14)

Jehu said he wanted to reward all the supporters of Baal in Israel.

But it was a trap and Jehu killed all the worshipers of Baal (verse 25)

Jehu then destroyed the golden calves (verse 29)

Jehu then turned his back on God and became evil (verse 31)

Hazael smote Israel and Israel was greatly oppressed (verse 32)

Jehu reigned over Israel for 28 years.

After Jehu died his son Jehoahaz reigned in Israel and Samaria (verse 35)

The seven year old King Jehoash.

2 Kings Chapter 11

In Chapter 10 Jehu killed Ahaziah the King of Judah.

Ahaziah's mother siezed power in Judah killing all other heirs to the throne.

Ahaziah's sister hid one of the sons in the house of the Lord for six years.

In the seventh year the priest Jehoiada proclaimed Jehoash king.

The army promised to protected the 7 year old king Jehoash.

Ahaziah's mother turned up and was executed by the army.

The priest Jehoiada promised God that Judah would worship God.

The images of Baal were smashed. The reign of 7 year old Jehoash started.

Jehoash was a good king and reigned 40 years

Why in the world did he turn his back on God?
