  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Re: 2 King chapter 24, verse 4 really stood out for me:

4 And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the Lord would not pardon.

5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

What stood out for me is the mention of innocent blood and that the Lord would not pardon it. This is SERIOUS, mon. The Lord wouldn't pardon this. There must be a significant reason why this would not be pardoned, specifically......makes ya' wonder if this is part of the reason that Jehoiakim was noted as an especially evil king, and makes ya' wonder if he didn't also curse the reign of his son after him because of his wickedness.

One last thought:

The innocent blood that is spoken of, is that possibly the sacrifice of children and babies upon altars that this is referring to?

The part where is says "innocent blood" kinda reminds me of abortion.

Brinny,

We are not told what this shedding of innocent blood means but it sounds like human sacrifice to me.

Nebuchadnezzar burnt the temple, the kings house and all the houses in Jerusalem (verse 9).

Carried of all the young people and even knocked down the walls of Jerusalem (verse 10).

King Zedekiah was killed along with all his sons. Only a few old people were left.

When the governor of Jerusalem was murdered the remaining Jews fled to Egypt.

Jehoiachin a former King of Judah was let out of prison after 37 years.

Jehoiachin was allowed to live his remaining years in confort.

First Book of Chronicles Chapters 1 to 9

The first nine chapters are all genealogies. Chapter 1 starts with Adam.

Chapter 2 starts with the sons of Israel.
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulum, Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher.

I believe that the purpose of all these genealologies is so that Jews can trace their ancestry back to Adam.

Brinny,

We are not told what this shedding of innocent blood means but it sounds like human sacrifice to me.

What i noticed is that it was particularly abominable to God, which would be an entirely different category of the regular shedding of blood, which IS forgivable....

interesting study...

Zedekiah the last King of Judah

2 Kings Chapter 25

what a tragic accounting of him and his reign....his sons are killed before his very eyes and then he is blinded by a king more evil than he was.....

Yes, it's like a history account written and recorded by God Himself, isn't it? Written and recorded through His servants who recorded it in obedience to Him.

Brinny,

The First Book of Chronicles seems to be a retelling of the lives and stories of the kings of Isreal.

what a death for Saul.....

then they put Saul's head in the temple of Dagon

(it's tragic and sad that Jonathan was killed.....makes me wonder if he should've been fighting alongside his corrupt and demented father, Saul)

1 Chrionicles Chapter 11

All Israel wanted David to be King of Israel.

Davids first act was to conquer the Castle of Zion (verse 5).

David said the first man to smite the Jebusites at Castle Zion shall be chief and captain.

Joab was the first and became chief (verse 6).

David lived in the Castle of Zion. That is why it is called the city of David (verse 7)

Around the Castle of Zion David built a city (verse 8)

Brinny,

We learned in this chapter why Jerusalem is called the City of Zion.

Brinny we learned in this chapter how Joab became David's captain. Joab stayed loyal to David unto David's death. I dont recall Joab ever losing a battle. Joab became a mighty man of war.

1 Chronicles Chapter 11

Benaiah slew and Egyptian giant (verse 23)

Benaiah also slew a lion in a pit on a snowy day (verse 22)

Abishai the brother of Joab was one of the three mighties (verse 20).

Jashobeam was one of the three mighties (verse 11)

Eleazar was one of the three mighties (verse 12)

Brinny,

Do you think this is where the idea for the Three Musketeers came from ?

Interesting...they WERE swordsmen, weren't they? AND mighty men of valor, and that was quite a feat, wasn't it? The Three Musketeers? Interesting concept :D

By the way, it indicates how beloved David was amongst these three mighty men and all of his men, doesn't it, for them to of their own volition, to do this for him, doesn't it?

Brinny,

I have no biblical reason to connect the three musketeers and the three mighties. I just wonder if someone might have thought that the three mighties would make a good TV series, and also put them in a more modern setting.

Death of Uzza for touching the ark

I Chronicles Chapter 13

King David was moving the ark to Jerusalem on a cart.

When the oxen stumbled Uzza put out his hand to steady the ark.

Uzza was killed for touching the ark.

David was upset and decided to leave the ark at someones house while he considered what to do.

THIS was sooooo difficult for me...i was very much like David was, kinda' shocked and not understanding why there was such a severe punishment for trying to keep the Ark from falling.....

This is a deeep chapter.....it requires a shovel here for me, because there's sooo much more going on than just the way it all appears on the surface....

I was told many years ago the there was an official way to transport the ark and putting it on a cart was not the recommend method of transportation.
