  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

2 Kings Chapter 20

Isaiah tells Hezekiah that he is sick and will die. Hezekiah prays to God and God heals the sickness and promises Hezekiah another 15 years on the throne of Judah (verse 6)

The King of Babylon came to visit Hezekiah and was shown all the treasures of the temple.

Isaiah warns that sometime in the future the tribe of Judah will be taken as captives to Babylon (verse 17)

But the captivity in Babylon is a long way off as in the first verse of the next chapter we learn that Manasseh is King of Judah for 55 years.

2 Kings Chapter 22

Josiah reigned as King of Judah for 30 years. He was a good king.

Josiah did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.

Josiah did many repairs to the temple.

God was angry with the Jews for worshiping Baal and promised to punish them.

But because Josiah was a good king he would not see it in his lifetime.

2 Kings Chapter 23

Jehoiakim reigned in Judah for 11 years and was an evil king (verse 34).

Jehoiakim had to pay heavy taxes to Pharoah in gold and silver.

Nebuchadnezar King of Babylon took over the area (in the next chapter).

It's partly a problem for me...i've had difficulty concentrating and focusing on this particular book....

Brinny,

I have looked ahead at the book of Chronicles and it is just lists of names for the first nine chapters. It does not say that these people did anything.

I cannot see how we can get a message from God from lists of names. If this thread is to mean anything we must try to some meaning from each chapter.

We might need to skip some chapters in Chronicles until we reach a chapter that means something to us.

2 Kings Chapter 24

Jehoiachin was an evil king (verse 9)

Jehoiachin tried to stop Nebuchadnezzar pillaging Jerusalem.

Jehoiachin was taken away prisoner to Babylon.

Many of the young healthy people were also taken into slavery in Babylon.

Jehoiachin's father's brother Zedekiah became King of Judah.

Re: 2 King chapter 24, verse 4 really stood out for me:

4 And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; which the Lord would not pardon.

5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

What stood out for me is the mention of innocent blood and that the Lord would not pardon it. This is SERIOUS, mon. The Lord wouldn't pardon this. There must be a significant reason why this would not be pardoned, specifically......makes ya' wonder if this is part of the reason that Jehoiakim was noted as an especially evil king, and makes ya' wonder if he didn't also curse the reign of his son after him because of his wickedness.

One last thought:

The innocent blood that is spoken of, is that possibly the sacrifice of children and babies upon altars that this is referring to?

The part where is says "innocent blood" kinda reminds me of abortion.

Brinny,

Would you please write an overview of the first 9 Chapters of Chronicles ?

It is simply a list of names. Can you think of a reason why these names are listed ?

Chapter 10 of Chronicles is the first time anything happens and it is about King Saul fighting the Philistines.
