  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was told many years ago the there was an official way to transport the ark and putting it on a cart was not the recommend method of transportation.

Yes, a Bible teacher cleared that up after my initial shocked of reading what happened. It helped a LOT to understand the WHY of God doing this....

David pitched a tent for the ark (verse 1)

Only Levites should carry the ark (verse 2)

And the children of Levies bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the Lord.
(verse 15)

David was excited that the ark had come to Jerusalem (verse 29)

King David danced with excitement.

David had a wife Michal who was Sauls daughter.

Michal despised David in her heart because she saw him dancing out of her window.

1 Chronicles Chapter 16

David brought the ark and put it in a tent in the City of David.

To celebrate the ark arriving in the City of David, King David delivered his first psalm (verse 7)

It is a long psalm and contunues on till verse 36.

This psalm contains many beautiful words.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: let men say amoung the nations, The LORD reigneth (verse 31)

Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice (verse 32)

Then shall the trees of the wood sing out the presence of the Lord (verse 33)

O give thanks unto the Lord for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever (verse 34)

in reading this, i realize that David's victories and the conquests of taking the gold, and silver and brass, are setting up a storehouse of what Solomon will use in the future to build the temple....

Brinny,

It says that Soloman was the richest man in the world, and I wondered when I read it where all his wealth came from.

Then also king David dedicated unto the Lord, with the silver and gold that he brought from all these nations (Chapter 18 verse 11)

David built up huge wealth from all the conquered nations.

1 Chronicles Chapter 19

David sent some messengers to the King of the Ammonites.

The Ammonites thought they were spies and cut off their clothes and beards (verse 4)

This led to war and the Syrians joined the Ammonites to fight David.

Joab organised a battle plan to fight the Syrians and Ammonites (verse 10)

Joab was to start the battle by attacking the Syrians (verse 12)

The Syrians fled, followed quickly by the Ammonites.

47,000 Syrians were slaughtered (verse 18)

Brinny,

God was on the side of King David. So the glory should go to God for all these victories.

1 Chronicles Chapter 20

Joab then turned his attention to the Ammonites and smote them (verse 1)

The Ammonite king had a heavy gold crown. The crown, precious stones and much spoil was given to David (verse 2)

The Israelites had another war with the Philistines. It seems that the giant Goliath had children (verse 8)

The children of Goliath were killed by the Israelites in Chapter 20.

and maybe one clue to why David was a man after God's own heart and the "apple of God's eye" is because David offered all of it to the Lord and intended to use it all to the glory of God, in the building of the temple....

a precious heart David had for God....

1 Chronicles Chapter 21

Satan wanted the people of Israel numbered (verse 1)

Joab was against numbering Israel, because with God on their side their numbers and powers were multiplied by 100 (verse 3)

King David overruled Joab on this issue (verse 4)

The kings word was abominable to Joab (verse 6)

God was displeased with the numbering of Israel and God smote Israel (verse 7)

God offered King David three punishments and Davd chose pestilence.

This killed seventy thousand men of Israel (verse 14)

God then considered destroying Jerusalem (verse 15)

But God relented when David and the elders repented (verse 16)

Brinny,

What a wonderful comment from Joab. We dont need to know the number of the Israelites, because if God is on our side he will multiply our numbers by 100.

This comment showed that Joab had great faith in God's power to lead the Israelites to victory over their enemies.

I feel that there is a message for me in Joab's comment. Do we today have the same wonderful faith in God's power? The faith that Joab had in the power of Go is a great example to us all.
