Stacey Abrams' State of the Union 2019 response: Live fact-check & transcript

I didn't watch it, but I read the transcript. It's well-written. Points I agree with:
  • Making livelihoods of our federal workers a pawn for political games is a disgrace. The shutdown was a stunt, engineered by the president of the United States, one that defied every tenet of fairness and abandoned not just our people but our values.
  • From now on, our leaders must be willing to tackle gun safety measures and face the crippling effect of educational loans, to support educators and invest what is necessary to unleash the power of America's greatest minds.
  • The Republican tax bill rigged the system against working people. Rather than bringing back jobs, plants are closing, layoffs are looming, and wages struggle to keep pace with the actual cost of living.
  • Rather than suing to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, as Republicans' attorneys generals have, our leaders must protect the progress we made and commit to expanding health care and lowering cost for everyone....Maternal mortality rates show that mothers, especially black mothers, risk death to give birth. And in 14 states, including my home state, where a majority want it, our leaders refuse to expand Medicaid which could save rural hospitals, save economies and save lives.
  • The foundation of our moral leadership around the globe is free and fair elections, where voters pick their leaders, not where politicians pick their voters.
  • So even as I am very disappointed by the president's approach to our problems, I still don't want him to fail. But we need him to tell the truth and to respect his duties and respect the extraordinary diversity want him that defines our progress has always been found in the refuge, in the basic instinct of the American experiment — to do right by our people. And with a renewed commitment to social and economic justice, we will create a stronger America together.

Is there any indication as to who wrote it?
For all I know, she did herself, but I would think she has a team. Most people at this level do. Why do you ask?

Why not post the point you disagree with also? The points you agree with are points I disagree with.

Point 1. The house and senate at any time can get rid of Government shutdowns by legislation and take it off the table. The dems do not mind the shutdown as long as it Trump gets the blame for it. This is why the Dems refuse to negotiate for border security. The dems refused to protect the citizens of the US knowing there would be a shut down if no deal was reached.
Point 2. Its basically saying the government should take the responsibility of paying for education off of the student and place it on the tax payer. this is a move towards socialism.
Point 3. The tax law decreased fed tax withholdings for almost everyone I know. This is more income in the pockets of the middle class. unemployment numbers alone tell us the economy is is strong and the new tax law is a supporting factor.
Point 4. expanding medicaid adds extremely high cost to the states budget. The state would either have to increase taxes or take funds away from other very important government functions such as education and law enforcement. also expanding public low cost healthcare increases private healthcare cost.
Point 5. She is trying to say Trump basically only panders to the base of his voters and cares not for the rest of the population. This is untrue however and can be seen in the simplest way by looking at the unemployment numbers alone.
Point 6. She is basically trying to put forth the narrative that Trump is a liar and then reveals what she thinks the biggest problems are social justice and take money from the rich and give to the poor.

FYI: The newly elected Georgia Governor— the Republican that defeated Abrams— is considering requesting a Medicaid waiver.

Georgia Democrats said they welcomed Kemp’s approach as a way to trigger a new high-stakes debate over health care policy, even as they urged him to reconsider his stance that expanding Medicaid would be too costly in the long run.

This is just a starting point for a discussion. Start your own thread if you don't like how I do mine. And since you brought it up, why don't you yourself list the things you agree with as well as disagree with, eh?

The points you agree with are points I disagree with.

Point 1. The house and senate at any time can get rid of Government shutdowns by legislation and take it off the table. The dems do not mind the shutdown as long as it Trump gets the blame for it. This is why the Dems refuse to negotiate for border security. The dems refused to protect the citizens of the US knowing there would be a shut down if no deal was reached.
That's untrue and contrary to fact. The Democrats didn't and don't refuse to negotiate for "border security". A clean spending bill had been negotiated and agreed to by the House, Senate and President - then the President reneged. This is historical fact.

Point 2. Its basically saying the government should take the responsibility of paying for education off of the student and place it on the tax payer. this is a move towards socialism
No, it is not basically saying that. I think you have Abrams confused with Ocasio.
Point 3. The tax law decreased fed tax withholdings for almost everyone I know. This is more income in the pockets of the middle class. unemployment numbers alone tell us the economy is is strong and the new tax law is a supporting factor.
Five dollars in the pockets of poor people and 5 million in the pockets of billionaires. There is a sunset clause on the middleclass tax cuts but none on the ones for the rich or for the corporations. In the meanwhile, the debt continues to grow unabated and will eventually have to be paid. Many of us suspect that soon because of that growing debt, middle class entitlements will suddenly have to be cut.
Point 4. expanding medicaid adds extremely high cost to the states budget. The state would either have to increase taxes or take funds away from other very important government functions such as education and law enforcement. also expanding public low cost healthcare increases private healthcare cost.
The Fed was paying a good portion of it and besides the cost, you have to look at the benefit to the local economy. Those doctors, nurses, medical technicians, etc. put money into the economy.
Point 5. She is trying to say Trump basically only panders to the base of his voters and cares not for the rest of the population. This is untrue however and can be seen in the simplest way by looking at the unemployment numbers alone.
What? Do you think Donald actually controls those numbers?
Point 6. She is basically trying to put forth the narrative that Trump is a liar and then reveals what she thinks the biggest problems are social justice and take money from the rich and give to the poor.
I'm sorry, but it's been documented extremely well that Donald Trump lies all the time about matters great and small. It's no longer a "narrative" but cold fact.
Noted.
