Well, I did what I told myself years ago not to do. I purchased a semiautomatic AK47 style rifle. I was at my local gun shop looking for another AR-15 and was making eyes at a Colt AR-15A4 when I spotted a Serbian M70 for $850.00, $1,100 less than the Colt. I ended up getting it and with the difference was able to grab 3 magazines and 1680 rounds of Russian steel cased Barnaul ammo. It groups okay if I am shooting at hippopotamus at 50 meters but what the hay. Get it while I can.

You lucky dawg. I bought a black powder antique rifle that I’m happy with. Yours sounds like a lot of money but it’s not. Could be too much fun for you, be careful.

You might not want that information widely known our wonderful leaders in DC want to ban all such firearms including 9mm semi auto pistols. If they ram that one through it will soon include all semi auto firearms.

Black powder is my favorite. I have several modern reproduction flintlock muskets and on original 1861 Springfield. However, they do not like the modern black powder substitutes and I just can't find real black powder anymore so they just gather dust.

No, I was able to buy it and get it to the suburban before my wife got out of the quilting store.

I bought a replica Navy Colt .32 I think in '66 when I was in flight school. It is fun to shoot. The rear sight is in the hammer and disappears as soon as you pull the trigger. I have a can of black powder I bought back then. Not sure about it.

I just bought four pounds a few months ago from Grafs. I heard Goex is bought and should be producing soon. Have you tried different loads? You can adjust by 2 or 3 grains at a time to find a happy medium. What amount were you using?

I don’t think it ever goes bad. They used to have moist burning bp in the old days that was better than the dry hard to soften- even Goex.

I shoot .678 round ball with 80 grains of 2f or 70 grains of 3f.
I have a stash of goex and some elephant from Brazil, but not enough to go out like I used to.

Those would be hairy loads with substitute. But what’s the problem. Won’t an adjustment fix it? Work up a load. ?

The problem is that the modern substitutes are not as easy to ignite as black powder, most of the muskets are flintlock and require easy to ignite powder for the pan.
