Why would you need a military weapon? There is no need for such a rifle outside of military use. Of course, paramilitary wannabees think they are cool, but that's their problem.
I'm not so sure I would call the Branch Davidians a "religious group", and their leader David Koresh was certainly not anything but a demon. If any "religious" group is armed to the teeth and opens fire on Federal officers they deserve what they got.

This at a time when the Democrats have the White House and the Congress? Looks like history is about to repeat. "Paging Janet Reno...."
It's also their legal choice to make.
Right. So long as they obey the law, they have every right to keep weapons. Second Amendment and all that.
I was thinking the same thingThis at a time when the Democrats have the White House and the Congress? Looks like history is about to repeat. "Paging Janet Reno...."
I just hope the government will respect that right and not do again what they did in 1993.
Enforce the law? That's how it works. If you don't like a law, work to change it. Don't just break the law and expect no consequences.
Don't blame the police for enforcing laws. They aren't the ones who make them.
What laws were they supposedly enforcing in 1993?
The McLennan County Sheriff's Department asked ATF to investigate possible federal gun violations in May 1992, after a UPS driver reported delivering big shipments of gun parts, ammo, grenade hulls and chemicals and military gear to Koresh and his followers. The sheriff's department also had reports of explosions and automatic gunfire at Mount Carmel, the sect's property. ATF investigators determined the group was amassing an arsenal, including the means to make illegal weapons. Former followers told ATF before its raid — and at least five surviving Davidians testified afterward — that Koresh taught his followers that he was the Lamb of God and the weapons were for an apocalyptic battle in which they would all be killed; he would be resurrected along with faithful followers to slaughter and judge God's enemies.
Breaking through the myths surrounding the 1993 Branch Davidian raid
So acting on the request and information from the local sheriff (who requested the investigation), they concluded (correctly, as it turns out) that Koresh was building an arsenal, including illegal weapons and explosives. This was confirmed by Koresh's own followers.
People build arsenals all the time.
I appreciate well made things. AR-15's are not commonly full auto, so they are not "military weapons" per se. Still, why should We the People be underpowered?
And THEY are the real concern to loss of freedom......the very people you see every day. And with all the talk about police misconduct (which IIRC you have largely agreed with) how can you consider them a 'well regulated militia'? Doesn't seem to be too 'well regulated' to me according to the narratives.BTW, what is it about "a well-regulated militia" that you don't understand? We have that already in the form of the police.

It'll be the rationale for federalizing the police.
It'll be the rationale for federalizing the police. Then the feds will be in charge of all enforcement of whatever they decide to mandate against We the People.
Ironically, some find that comforting.
Trump already tried that. He even attempted to install federal police in places, with no identification or accountability, much as Putin's federal police operate. He failed. So there is that. I notice a lot of people here denounced his attempt. Some others here, didn't.
Which, I suppose, isn't that surprising.
Apparently you haven't heard of the FBI, the National Guard, or the Department of Justice. I find those organizations and the people who are dedicated to our safety, peace, and general welfare to be worthy of our respect and admiration (if we are law-abiding).
