  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Question:
Is there a 'coffee' thread (currently/active)?..on CF
---
Having my morning coffee..
7:08 am

There was one a bit ago, asking what coffee one prefers. I killed the thread with my choice of "Dunkin Donuts Original Blend" (a cup of which I'm slurping as I type). :)

Lol.

A coffee vendor/salesman once told me "You don't know what good coffee is until you go to a big city restaurant." Later I had occasion to drink coffee in a cafe in Chicago. I was blown away by the great taste. That said I think the quality of coffee has gone down generally over the last few decades. The way coffee is brewed may account that as well. The best 'home brewed' coffee I ever had was coarse-ground, brewed in a percolator.

Would anyone under 50 know what a percolator is? lol! I remember my mother brewing coffee that way. Then everything became "instant" until filter coffee (in the 80s?). Nowadays coffee machines which make all sorts, but I don't have one - just a cafetiere. The best cup of coffee I've had was in a small town, called Keswick, in the Lake District, UK. It was decades ago but the memory lingers. However I agree that city centre coffee places can provide a tasty cup.

I'm a night owl, so may be having a late night drink when you are having your morning coffee :D - except for the time difference if you are across the Atlantic. I usually have a ginger tea last thing at night. It's something I've recently discovered and really love. Many of my visitors do too. Does anyone else here like it or any other type of spiced tea?

Have you had gingerbread tea? It's lovely. Twinings do it. Chai is also nice, either just with water or with hot milk.

Gillian
No, I've never heard of it, but my spiced ginger tea is Twinings, so I'll have a look for it next time I shop. Thanks Gillian.

Ironically, the best coffee I've ever had was in a small cafe in a small town where I used to work. So good that I insisted that a friend join me for coffee one morning. He concurred and had three cups, but shortly after suffered from heart palpitations and was out of action for the better part of the day. Unknown to me was that he was not a coffee drinker at all and only agreed because of my enthusiasm for the great tasting coffee.

I hope your friend got better soon! I suppose that if one is not used to the caffeine three cups could have a dramatic effect. Nowadays I drink decaff, but the occasional caffeinated one is great.

I had a terrible coffee habit for years. Now I make a two-cup thermos and sip it throughout the day. I sleep much better as well as saving money.
