I was 14 at the time and in my fourth year at grammar school. It was night time in the UK and I was doing my homework in our dining room. My dad was also in the room, doing some paperwork. We were just quietly working when my sister came into the room and told us President Kennedy had been shot. She must have heard it announced on the radio in the kitchen. I hoped he would survive, but of course not much later we heard that he had died. I think he was the first American president I was aware of, or took much interest in, being a 14 yearold in the UK.

I'm glad that your husband is improving Gillian - praise God - and I'm praying for him and you. Yes, lockdown has prevented people going away, but I hope that you are managing okay. :)

Thank you reborn. We're managing ok, yes, with some days better than others.

- Any coffee drinker here?

Blessings,
Yes, but not at 6.43am! :D Actually your 6.43 would be 11.43 here, so maybe about then I might have one. (I'm fairly nocturnal.) :)

How are you Pioneer3mm? Nice to see you here. :)

Hello all,

Having my elevenses here - a plum and a cup of redbush vanilla tea. I only very occasionally drink coffee, usually if I've run out of teabags.

I've finally started filling in our Census form, but already have a question to ask about it. I've got a page in my 'things to do' exercise book entitled Questions About the Census. For anyone not living in the UK, this is Census year and we have to submit our forms by Sunday 22 March or as soon as possible after.

Later on I'll have to do some supermarket shopping - we're out of hubby's preferred breakfast cereal - and will probably also have to pick up lunch from KFC - hubby's favourite take out outlet.

Do any other 65+ people here feel 'elderly'? I don't!

Love to all!

Hi Gillian,

I've just started drinking fruit/spiced tea. I had a ginger one last night and earlier a cherry and cinnamon. I didn't know how delicious they were. Having a decaff coffee now and must go to bed soon. It's 3 a.m.

I did my Census in the early hours of Monday morning. It didn't seem to take as long as I'd thought, maybe because I'm retired, or because I only had to answer for myself. I liked doing the paper ones because we could see all the questions. I'm wondering if there was further information required of some people, because they are still working or have larger households, different types of dwelling etc, which the online census bypassed for those for whom it was not relevant. I hope you managed to get your question answered.

I would say I feel 'senior' (in years) rather than 'elderly'. Thankfully I manage to keep fit, have an exercise bike, and can do most things for myself. But I like the seniority being older brings in having had a longer perspective on life and, in some cases, seeing the outcome of various issues. This has proved to me the truth of Proverbs 9 v 10 and Psalm 14 v 1a. Also my senior moments amuse me, and sometimes other people too! :D I love my slightly aunt-like relationships with younger people, but also love to talk to those of my generation who can remember the things I can.

Sue :)

Hi fellow coffee lovers and all Senior Eagles.

Feeling elderly? Read about a woman who pregnant with twins got pregnant with another baby at the same time. Felt relieve that it didn't happen to us but she definitely needs our prayers. They're Christians. They wanted all 3 who have been born and she's asking for prayers.

I have loved reading this thread. I'll be 73 this year, wife has asked me when I'm going to retire, I'm not. My health is good and don't feel my age at all. I no longer work an eight to five job, actually never have.
I always wonder what other seniors I meet have done with their lives, what they have learned, both good and not so good.
I live in the California Sierra foothills and just love it here, try to walk at least three miles a day, and here that means up and down small hills. Family is scattered all over the country so we do travel a bit.

I am 72. Getting older has been the best part of my life. Sin is easier to avoid, lol, but not eliminate. My life of seeking God has a better foundation of practices and freedoms from the world's distractions.

There's more of "It is OK, don't worry." Many things I used to believe to be true I now know to be false. My views on politics and religion have reversed since my college days. Each year I value more and more what I learn from history.

I have a better understanding of and respect for the differences between men and women. My core personality is still the same. I see my weaknesses better. After making many dumb mistakes I don't make those same mistakes -- or not as often.

Like most people my age I have known tragedy unthinkable when I was young. But I know each breath is a gift from God. I am much happier, calmer, and see more humor in the things. I am far more thankful. It is now easier to rejoice always and to pray without ceasing.

... I don't remember the "duck and cover" ads, but I've just had a look at them on YouTube and it was sad to see the real risk we were under. Also strange were some of the cynical comments, presumably from younger people, who didn't seem to understand the world at the time....

Between 1956 and 1958 I attended public school in the California desert near a base critical to the Cold War, I never remember seeing any of the duck and cover films or being told about it. Years later I assumed all adults in the community, many with connections to the base, knew our time would be better spent on learning while we could, lol.

What you said is so true. I find now I can spend more time praying, studding, and attempting to grow. I look at our world today and the distractions that are so available, TV, any kind of entertainment one can think of, the internet, ya I love it. I do think the secret is to remain busy and active in our retirements or senior years. I still work when I feel like it, and that keeps the old brain active.

Hi there...

I am 75.

My wife graduated in her mid 50's in midwifery and is starting a business in post natal care. She starts work early and I typically get up at 540am to make her breakfast in bed. She leaves for work at 7am.

I don't drink coffee or tea - I drink hibiscus tea to help keep BP down. I make porridge with Ground flaxseed for the same reason.

For years my BP was 110/80 but I had a court case that was high stress and my BP went up to 140/90 - I won but there was a cost.

Years ago a respected pastor called me out at a meeting and said that the Lord did not want me to die because I had a lot to do. He said I had high cholesterol which was correct... it was 6.4
So he prayed for me and in two weeks it was down to 5.3 without medication.

I am an empty nester for the first time in 36 years.

I have three main commitments - Church ministry to the broken, FX Trading for support, and developing a global communication system for natural disasters.

Just an intro...

God is good - I often ponder on the amazing life He has graciously given me.

What a lovely thing to do for your wife, Carl. You sound like you have an interesting life that keeps you busy and your brain ticking over. I loved your story of your healing. I haven't tried hibiscus tea - maybe try it at Starbucks sometime, or order some in. Tescos and Asda - our two big supermarkets in my town - are woefully unadventurous in their stocks of looseleaf tea - just a lot of different brands of plain old regular tea. Most of the time I drink peppermint tea at breakfast time and redbush vanilla at 'elevenses' time, which is about now.

Really interesting posts above. I didn't realise how many of us there were over 70. I think we're younger longer these days, thanks to better health care etc. If you think of 70-year olds when we were children they seemed much older than we do now. So I'm thankful for living in this generation.

I'm enjoying my old age. My twenties and fifties were difficult due to personal circumstances. In between was quite good, when I was married. I've hated being divorced. I loved being a homemaker and had wanted to be a SAHM but we didn't have children.

When I reached 60 I did a degree in psychology as I wanted to look at issues surrounding infant attachment, and what happens when that is broken. Since then I've done a bit of work on it, but find that running the home and doing the daily things takes quite a bit of time, as well as praying for people and reading/studying the Bible. I enjoy my leisure time too, and live in a fairly communal setting, so am able to socialise frequently. I love my neighbours but don't know if any of them are saved. Some have let me pray with them over their concerns which is encouraging.

I'm finding that I tend to repeat myself these days so I may have said all this before. I did go back and check, but I've forgotten what I've read! :D

Anyone else notice that some of that basic health info they told us when we were kids was actually great recommendations. Daily: Brush your teeth 2 min 2x, chew your food 20 times per bite, sleep 8 hrs n drink 8 glasses - mostly water.

Friend says professional told her to help avoid dementia - drink recommended amount of water. That's motivating!

Hello all! Even though I regularly participate in other subforums debating Christianity and politics I never noticed this forum for us "eagles".

I am 77 and have been a Christian since 1977. Prior to that I was a rock-solid atheist, but the Lord had other plans for me.

My wife of 52 years and I are living out our senior years on a small New Mexico ranch with our dogs and horses. We have two children, living in Hawaii and Florence, Italy, and two wonderful grandchildren (also in Italy).

I hope to participate regularly!
