It's short but so searching and relevant, even though it's about Israel and not the church. There are so many lessons and applications for pilgrim believers.

To me its about the church, but i do see things in a simplistic way. The church to me is any group of God fearing people who love Him. It matters little to me whether they existed BC or AD.

I read Psalm 119 in a NT context. I see the love for the commands of God that David showed and i feel His love, but i read that psalm with the words of the Lord and His apostles in mind. If David were alive today i think perhaps he would still feel as he did in Psalm 119 but he would be speaking of the commands that the Apostles and the Lord teach. And its noteworthy that David sometimes spoke as if he already knew Gods plan, and perhaps he did, maybe he learned it by the Spirit or by the prophets.


Psalm 51:16-17New King James Version (NKJV)

16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.

I don't see the church before Pentecost, but there are certainly a lot of church applications, if not direct interpretations.

As i said, i see Godly men and women in both OT and NT. These are Gods people, it matters little to me if they lived BC or AD. Im just looking at the body Of Gods people. David is my brother just as Paul is my brother, in my opinion.

I agree with a lot that you say; when it comes to the seminal events of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the empowerment of what became the church at Pentecost, then the timing of events does has some important significance.

Yes, there are some wonderful applications (the word I would use) for the church in Malachi.

I agree with a lot that you say; when it comes to the seminal events of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the empowerment of what became the church at Pentecost, then the timing of events does has some important significance.

This a glorious verse.....what happened was sooooo precious to God that He actually had written a book of remembrance, for them, and here's those precious key words that un-lock His treasure-house and that are treasured in His heart:

for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His Name.

reminds me of what it says in Psalms (i can't remember where off-hand) where we are to meditate in our hearts upon Him even in our beds, like before sleep.....this kinda' gives us a glimpse into why God called David the "apple of His eye", cuz David did this a LOT, didn't he?

I do think Malachi is so relevant: the idea of the faithful few encouraged to be faithful while the Lord has entirely in His hand the events of the future.

Look at verse 1:

Malachi 2:1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.

To whom is the prophet Malachi speaking here? The entire chapter is directed to the Levitical priests (not the Church) and they were being reproved for their impiety. How do you apply this to the Church today?

Since ALL Scripture is profitable to the Christian, and the things which were written aforetime were written for our learning, there is a very definite application to the Church (or more precisely local churches or assemblies) today.

All believers are a Royal Priesthood, but the Royal Priesthood of all believers has been generally set aside for man-made priesthoods, separating the clergy from the laity. That means that the majority of churches and denominations have NOT LAID SCRIPTURE TO HEART.

We could go into many others areas where the Word of God has been superseded by the Traditions of Men. And this is a rebuke to all those churches. Every church needs to examine its doctrines and practices and see how they line up with the Word of God. And every believer is accountable to see that his or her church is not off track. The letters to the seven churches in Revelation bears this out.

We, too, should greatly prize meeting with other Christians in the Lord's Name.

Should or do? I do, and am hungry more and more for God's Kingdom every day and thirsty for God's Righteousness!
When I meet in person or on the phone with another Christian abiding in Jesus , we can talk /(fellowship)/ for hours and hours, being refreshed by Jesus and each other's testimony, even 10 hours or longer without stopping and without feeling like so much time has passed (it feels only like 30 minutes!).

? then what makes it "deep" ? Or do you simply mean precious and rare ? I see this as expected every day in our lives, but not experienced every day, because we are so few and far apart in the usa.(and some /most?/ other countries....

I believe it is totally what's wrong with "church", what is lacking today, because people won't give up their lives ... ... ...
and God requires it (giving up their lives)
along with a complete life change, willingly and joyfully, that God accomplishes in the life of a believer immersed in Jesus.

I don't believe that the church is Israel.

I don't believe the church is under the law.

But I do believe that Christ is in all the Scriptures and that in the Old Testament there are wonderful applications to the church, even if the primary entity in view is Israel in the Old Testament, not the church as the revealed mystery that Ephesians and other New Testament passages bring out.
