  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thank you for your response, however this applies (and always has) to any heart under the sun, and i'm sure it applied even moreso to a priest who was to be someone who loved God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength. Otherwise he was a fraud, and thus abominable to God. An example of how abominable would be when God struck dead two of Aaron's sons (priests) who had no fear of God and did not "lay to heart" God or anything about God.

It surely applies to us if we say we are children of the Most High God. For if it doesn't then we are as tares and Jesus Himself will say 'depart from me for I never knew you', amen?

Perhaps you're correct.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Here is an excellent youtube video on the book of Malachi. The man who is doing the teaching has done these short commentaries on every book of the Bible. This one on Malachi is a little over 12 minutes long. Enjoy!

The Bible: Malachi - YouTube

Thanks, checking this out. I suppose that i might read Malachi tonight as well.

Ms. sheina:

Well, exactly.

No Christian lives on an island, right?

I love John's First Epistle's treatment of the theme of fellowship.

It kind of links in, really.

Blessings.

Sometimes there are spiritual islands that people become marooned on, but even there Gods truth is found if we seek it. Nothing can separate us from Gods love through Christ, not anything on earth. Sometimes fellowship can be found on a website too.

Amen, and i also like the part that specifies those who fear His Name :)

Amen.

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
9 Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.
11 Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Who is the man who desires life,
And loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their cry.
16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

Ms. brinny:

Yes, I'm sure this is the case. (I recall the ref. in Revelation 21 to 'the fearful and unbelieving'; a different kind of fear, of course, a fear associated with unbelief. Whereas the absence of 'fear' in Psalm 46, for instance, 'therefore will we not fear', is associated with faith.)

Blessings.

I think Gods chastening often may put fear in our hearts. Perhaps the fear like Psalm 34 speaks of. The Spirit reminds us of the things that God teaches us in scripture (John 14) And Perhaps Gods chastening will lead us back onto the right path if we start to stray from it.

Psalm 34:11 Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
12 Who is the man who desires life,
And loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.

Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell[a] in the house of the Lord
Forever.

Ms. brinny:

The Lord Jesus is talking about generosity and abundance; God see the heart, and loves a cheerful giver.

Neither the Lord Jesus, nor the Apostles, sought to put New Testament Christians saved by grace, back under the Old Testament law, which, with the Levites who were supposed to collect them, is where tithing strictly belongs.

If we give more than one tenth now, freely and without obligation, this is commendable. But we are not under the Old Testament law.

So my point earlier was, when we profit from books such as Malachi, we need to remember its dispensational background.

Blessings.

I agree, however if we see that we are worldly and that we need to sow to the spirit rather than to our fleshy desires, then perhaps giving our money away in faith is good, even if we don't feel like it. Maybe it could be a way of exercising faith by putting off the old man and putting on the new. Im not sure, just a thought.

...if one is feeling "imposed" upon they should not give at all, for what good is giving if it is not from the heart? Amen?

Amen. But still, perhaps if one sees his own worldliness and knows his own greed, and he wished to put on the new man and to sow to the spirit, then perhaps if he feels like he wants to give, even though his flesh says no, then perhaps God will reward him with spiritual growth. But surely i dont agree with sowing and reaping financial things. We sow and then we reap spiritual things, but not financial. I think the apostles teach us to pray for what we need, not to sow for them, and that God will give us what we need through prayer.

No sowing and reaping prosperity doctrine here, only prayer.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

James 4:Yet[a] you do not have because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. 4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?

6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:

“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”[c]

Mathew 6:9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.[c]
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Mathew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Amen.

...it seems like all the books complement one another, the more you read them.....

Amen. This is today's devotional verse from a certain website.

Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.
