  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Creationists, answer these questions as quickly as possible and definitely without googling (Remember, thou shalt not bear false witness)

What orifice forms first in deuterostomes?

Which human chromosome has subtelomeric duplications?

Which chromosome is missing in Turner Syndrome?

Where are the pharyngeal pouches in a human embryo?

What two organic rings fuse to form purine?

Which two human chromosomes were numbered 'backwards'? (They were labeled according to length.)

What are the two most common types of lack of pigmentation?

I ask because these are basic knowledge to anyone with even a mediocre education in biology beyond high school. If you know more about biology than every lifetime biologist on the planet you should be able to get all of them

Are you a biology student?

Are you a geology professor?

(pointless response, you did not improve a bit).

I can not answer many questions from many biology students, even they are only half semester into the Biol 101.

But, why should I?

I bet you can't answer questions that were asked in 3rd grade biology textbooks. For example, are rocks alive?

My grandson will answer: it depends.

He is going to be a great scientist. ^_^

I can't even name a biologist w/o having to look it up.

Do I qualify as a creationist? (or was I too honest?)

There are horrible things in this world that cannot be unseen. This is one for the books. If I die from Alzheimer's (which is actually likely for me if lung cancer doesn't happen first) I will remember this until death.

You can spend one year to take a peek of petrology. You will have your eyes opened after that. No need to vow anything about death.

Juv. Rocks are not alive. Period. New paragraph.

Well, I agreed with my grandson: It depends.

(I guess the eyes of the OP poster must be widely open now. Thanks for mention this interesting question in this thread.) (Got to do something else. Chat with you later)

I think the point the OP is trying to make is that a person should understand the counter-arguments and be able to understand and interpret the materials that oppose their own view in order to be justifiably stalwart in their own position.

AKA -- How can someone be so sure about their own position when they don't understand at least the basics of the field that makes claims contrary to their own.

Faith. As a result of what I believe is a deep psychological need for whatever flavor of religion to which they adhere to be true. That's what I think, at least.

In that case, I'm glad he didn't bring up pornography.
