An apology is good, but what's going to be done about who were treated unfairly?

I know that I and others have been on the receiving end of unofficial/official warnings that were handed out unfairly.

Someone else suggested amnesty, that we should start over.

I think that would be the fairest thing to do.

Yeah, but what about those who actually deserve their records?

I mean, not every staff action was unfair.

I would hate to see someone's record wiped, who deserves all the warnings he has and more.

I'm not really for or against the idea.

But, it might not be such a bad thing to do.

Those that deserve the warnings will probably get them back again pretty quickly. Maybe some that deserved them in the past will use this opportunity to clean up their act. And of course those that didn't deserve them - well, everything peachy with them.

Either that or just ban everybody. :)

Exactly.

Those who earned them will show reveal themselves again or they may have even learned a lesson.

Those who didn't will be vindicated.

I just think it would be the most fair way to do justice to those who were wronged and to show grace to those who may have made mistakes in the past.

It would also go a long way to show that we're serious about the reform. Not that I doubt that, but I've talked to a lot of people who feel - and some of them rightly so - that they have been treated unfairly, even to the point of outright persecution.

Invariable, these are the same people who offer thoughtful, thought provoking posts and add a lot to these boards, even if they are misunderstood at times.

This would be a good way to build bridges to those people.

The warnings expire a year after they were given. Why can't members who have warnings don't break any more rules.

But how about those members who have warnings who didn't break the rules or, at least, did so innocently? There are people who have been held to the letter of the law but who have kept the spirit of the law and I don't think it's fair to punish them for something an overzealous moderator did.

OK although I would love to see an Amnesty Day myself, for various reasons that shall remain unnamed, I have a problem with it myself....

See I think that then you would have the same situation that happened last time.... AS we have had an Amnesty Day before... But this allowed for previously permanently banned members to return to the site and some of them should not have been able to return, because in truth they were banned for good reason.

You do have some people on here where it is not that their heart is in the right place it is simply that they want to cause trouble, they want to cause chaos as they feed off of it.... I do not believe that it serves anyone any good here to bring those people back by instituting another Amnesty Day, also then our Mods and Admins are then over worked ....AGAIN.... There has to be a better solution .... something that can be done that is in the middle .... To help those that have had heavy handedness and things done to them that should not be there, but then also does not allow for that type of fiasco to happen... Maybe a Committee could be formed that oversees this type of stuff and makes surethere is always a system of checks and balances in place and then they can also look over again certain individuals cases ....

Not me man, I would love to see another Amnesty Day. Got myself a little SEN wracked up that I was too lazy to appeal and I would love for it to get erased. Looking out for number one, yes baby I am. :D

Not all warnings expire after a year..they technically are supposed to but there is some kind of bug that is keeping that from happening.

I still have three warnings on my record that expired more than a year ago. So I'd advise everyone to check their warning record and not assume they will automatically disappear.

I do think Amnesty day would be a good idea, since so many unfair warnings have been given out in the past.

I like that idea. A volunteer committee of both staff and non-staff who can look over cases. It should be made up of a diverse cross-section of CF members: both goody-goodys and people who have had lots of staff trouble. Veteran members (3+ years) and newer members (less than a year).

SEN's will mean nothing as part of the reform. ;) Only warnings will count and they will be called something else.

We shall see if Amnesty Day Number 2 comes about. We've done it before. There are no guarantees at this stage - lest some members think it's free license to go on a rule-breaking rampage.

Well, I thought it wouldn't be such a bad idea :p because a newer member might have a better idea of how someone new to CF thinks about the rules when they sign up. It might be helpful to have their $0.02 for someone who has had mod trouble from day one.
