Nobody will ever vote for a socilaist. There is no such thing as socialism in America. People might be what is now called Democratic socialism, but that is definitely NOT the same thing.

Actually, it is.

Socialists throughout the past century were even big on naming their countries the Democratic People's Socialist Republic of Whateverandwhereverstan.

What has that got to do with the canard that people on the Left think socialism offers "something for nothing?"
Who will be the recipient of the benefits from the the campaign promises of the democratic WH contenders? The middle/lower classes (so they claim). And who will pay for those same promises: The millionaires and billionaires and let's not forget large corporations. Unless you fit one of those 3 profiles you will receive something of great value and not be required to pay for it.....or so they claim. Most of us on the right know better.....

If JFK were alive today the democratic party would disown him for his 'conservative' views.
If JFK were alive.... Trump would still be a D-list celebrity.

The US Armed Forces are the most socialized group in the US.

What does that have to do with the Democratic platform to help the middle class instead of rich people?
Just pointing out that socialism is already well established in America.

Your point?

Republicans would call Kennedy a socialist.

No Democratic president ever elected (certainly since WWII) would be acceptable to the left wing of today's Democratic Party.

No Republican president ever elected (certainly since WWII) would be acceptable to the Trump wing (the vast majority) of the Republican party.

If JFK were alive today the democratic party would disown him for his 'conservative' views.

The poster rightly said that "socialism" and "democratic socialism" are quite different/

The democratic socialist states are not "the Democratic People's Socialist Republic of Whateverandwhereverstan". The democratic socialist country are the countries of Western Europe, certainly the UK and all the Scandinavian countries.
=======

Personally, I don't think that democratic socialism is presently acceptable in the US. Americans do not want the expanded federal government that would be required. Steps that could work are state efforts. Curiously, since Republicans now control the federal government, they don't favor state initiatives in social programs.

Actually, it is.

Is it 41 or 42 percent?

I need to see the survey method, demographics beyond political parties, and margin of error to believe it. Socialism is not democracy.

Socialism is usually democratic. Capitalism can be democratic too but it seems more difficult for it to be. Socialism can veer into communism just as capitalism can stagger off into fascism.

And even more horrifying is to end up like the failed state of Venezuela and nobody has anything and mass migrations to other countries result because people are starving.....but please, go on with what you were saying?
Textbook example of cherry-picking.

Picking out Venezuala as a representative example of socialism is liking picking out Charles Manson as representative of white people.

Years ago ago read a book called Beyond the Welfare State by Gunnar Myrdal, Nobel laureate and the chief architect of the Nordic Model. In it he opined that the Nordic Model would never work in the US because the quality of our civil service was too low and did not foster the kind of intellectual competence necessary.

The primary reason that Venezuela is a failed state is due to its single-party political system. That is generally the reason states fail or become tyrannical. If socialism alone was the reason then all failed states or tyrannies would be socialist.

Speedwell, are you talking about a book that was published decades ago? Unless it was written recently it does not reflect the current political climate and accurately project the future of democracy.
It has nothing too do with democracy. Nordic Model states are democracies too. What it has to do with is the capacity of government bureaucracies to handle large social programs competently. Whether the situation with respect to the US civil service has improved I do not know.

Ok. Then please provide an example of a socialist state which works.

I'll wait.
