• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

every Sage accepts the afterlife
except for skeptic Sages, I guess
'Sage'(?)... ahh .. someone regarded as possessing wisdom.
Wisdom is a human virtue, yes? Wisdom amounts to accumulating knowledge and having it mean something. Knowledge has no meaning until our minds give it one.

The view that doubt is debilitating would seem to be the root cause of not seeing 'the truth'?

doubt prevents acceptance of the truth

also doubt prevents finding the truth

I like the truth
though people I care about are in trouble
since they're skeptical
I'm still waiting for you to show how existence of an afterlife becomes 'truth' (other than by way of blind, unskeptical acceptance).

Y'know:
- 'Keep your minds open .. but not so open that your brains fall out';

or even better:
- 'the object of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid'.

Buddha was uniquely enlightened
yet everyone finds there is an afterlife…
Well, if by 'enlightened' you mean 'wise', then I personally don't see many issues in that part of what you claim.

However, Christians, (just as one eg), would disagree on him being a 'unique' source of truth about an afterlife.

Both your view and Christians' however, seem to use the same means of arriving at the same conclusion about the source of truth here though(?)

people use their strength to lift heavy subjects
like the afterlife
There are other more general motivations .. for example: curiosity and a determination to acquire wisdom .. (just like Buddha used).
The scientific process shares in this motivation .. its just a different way of going about giving meaning to truth.

... we should be concerned about eternity
I myself need to remember this
So you are saying here that concerns about 'eternity' are your own personally chosen priorities then, no?

Whereas most other people on the planet, using the products (or tools) of science, are concerned with the here, now, today issues.

Different choices .. different outcomes .. but still choices.
