We moderns have an arrogant attitude about the capabilities of the ancients.
If the ancient Egyptians had the capability of drilling holes then why wasn't this utilized in the construction of tombs in the Valley of the Kings which is composed of limestone and other sedimentary rock and would be quite easy to excavate.

The evidence that no drilling occurred is found in unfinished tombs where the debris was only partially removed.
The debris in the tombs is composed of fragments of various shapes and sizes while the walls were roughly chiseled.

The Valley of the Kings is a geological formation where the Pharoahs from the 18th - 20th dynasties constructed their tombs in an effort to thwart tomb robbers.
Ironically Tutankhamen's tomb remained undisturbed for centuries, one of the reasons is due to workers on the tomb of Ramses Vi who lived 200 years later by covering the entrance of Tut's tomb with the chiseled debris.
