The new show is called "The Book of Daniel," which is first and foremost a tired carbon copy of the outrageously dysfunctional suburban family shtick, but with the twist that this time, the Fool is played by Our Lord. Episcopal minister Daniel Webster is hooked on Vicodin and sees Jesus Christ regularly.

Well, I have not seen the show...but considering that the story is based on a guy hooked on drugs seeing things (like apparitions of Jesus)...
don't you think the story is just some crazy guy seeing things?

If I saw some guy walking down the street screaming about giant purple bunnies I'd probably dismiss it as crazy ravings if the same guy said he could see Jesus.

altogether it is pretty bad taste to mock someone's religion but as a christian I just figure they don't know or want to understand so whatever they say about it can be taken with a grain of salt.

They should have kept that show about the aliens and the government with the mom from spykids, that one was better than this Daniel one.

I have been wanting to watch it but still have not had a chance to catch one of the episodes. I will try to catch it next Friday. But anyway, I have also heard that it stinks. I am certain it is not representative of typical Episcopalians.

The reaction in my hometown (Nashville, TN) was such that our local NBC affiliate decided not to show any more episodes. Praise the Lord! The station was flooded with calls, e-mails, and letters. The executive staff decided the viewers didn't want it. (Gee, could we have the "left-over" episodes of Three Wishes instead?)

For the record, I scouted out the show. The writing is horrible, the characters flat, the plot too twisted for anyone to really want to follow it. That ignores the subject matter.

As far as the portrayal of Christians as "normal" people subject to tempatation, can I use the word puke here? I personally want the media to stop portaying homosexuality as "normal". (I can ignore the shows, like Will & Grace, where homosexuals are comedic characters.) My God does not laugh at people wallowing in sin. On the contrary, His heart breaks over it. He wants them to be saved from their depravity.
