I broke 20k, then didn't write for two days. *erg...* I'm pretty proud of myself though, I'm aiming for at least 30k by the time this is all over. If I got that far on my first try, I'd consider myself a winner, definitely. :D

43K may not feel like it, but you're definitely on the downhill slide. Even if you feel like you're running out of story, you'll get there for sure

Yah. a good running start makes a huge difference. I wrote an entire 300 words during the 2nd week (knew it was going to be bad before the month started -- but not that bad). Being at over 25K before entering the dry week made a huge difference in my willingness to pick back up the following Monday.

Finally passed 40k - but I'm into my last chapter!

Serious padding now needed and I already know more about prehistoric harps than I ever wanted to know. :sigh:
Dream sequence? epilogue?

I wound up writing an epilogue. Decided the story needed one.

I've done the dream thing once already. Fantasy the way I do it is rather prone to that. Prologue maybe. I can't do an epilogue. My story insisted on being in the first person & while I don't exactly kill off my MC she certainly can't write any epilogues. You'd think after all those years writing set words for uni I could manage a bit better that that. 10 000 short is a tad out there.

You know, I've often seen epilogues told in the 3rd person (or by another 1st person), when the story was told first person. The change of POV seems to be common particularly when the MC is indisposed.

Did you think of any scenes you really wanted to add to the earlier portions of the story as you were writing along in the latter portion?

I have a number of scenes I'm still fleshing out. Quite a bit of my story was pure dialog with little exposition. Not sure why I didn't add more detail as I went along -- just wanted to keep the story moving, I guess. It's at least 5k-7k to add the descriptives, and to add a couple scenes I realized later were necessary.

Oh, Thanks. When I outlined this before the event, I planned on about 150K words for my 1st draft--and I'll be right on target. Running out of story's not my problem on this one. Broke 47K yesterday, so yeah, I'll make the nano goal. Quantity has never been my problem. Quality, however........

I've got 16k. I'm torn. Push it or just toss out this year?
I agree with ravenscape. If you've got a story to tell, by all means keep writing. At least NaNo got you motivated to make a solid start, and you can keep writing and polishing far beyond 11/30.

I've broken 30,000. I want to break 40,000 before I go back to school sunday afternoon. If I can do that, I should be able to make 50k. Though the odd thing is, before, I was concerned about not having enough story. Now I'm hoping I don't have too much. Though I think it'll all work out in the end. I'll just need to say a few prayers to keep myself focused and going, since I really would like to finish.
