NaNoWriMo?

CelticRose, have you checked out the nano chat area? There's a steady stream of word war challenges (from 1 to 10 minutes long), where everyone starts writing furiously on the mark and then announce their wordcount afterwards. When I started to feel like I'd run dry, I checked the chatroom out just for amusement. But the challenges really worked for me. Five minutes of furious writing would break through my boredom or unsureness of where I wanted to go next. I usually kept writing for a half-hour or more before dipping back into the chatroom to goof around until the next word war.

There's something about knowing, right at that moment, that I'm the same boat with others that is encouraging somehow.

I'm not much for chatrooms, and the nano chatroom's pretty much like most of them. But the word wars helped me out a bunch when I was in the vast hostile desert somewhere between 15K and 20K.

not really. there are unofficial nano's throughout the year but people usually take december off to recuperate. the most activity is during november since that's the official nanowrimo.

Thanks ravenscape. I've been breaking everything down into small bits - the next 50, the next hundred, the next 500 to the next thousand and updating my word count like mad. I find it encouraging to see it go up even if it's only 50 or so words. Up is always good. I'm pegging away. Past 30 now and on the down hill slide.

Even the kids are starting to ask how close I am to 50k - but I think its just cause they want the computer back.

How I wish! I get kids messages popping up while I'm trying to write and them bleating at me to let them answer just this one. You counted how many kids I've got? lol. I can write though anything!

It appears that my local Nano group insists that they all have personal computers to use. Then again, I think there's only a handful of local Nanoers with kids.

Made it! And even had a last minute brainstorm for a nice artistic finale.

Now...there's a whoooooooole lot to go back and fix. Starting on page 1.

I just passed 41,000. I've slowed down a bit, but 50K seems well within reach. And, since I know everybody's wondering, yes, I did write yesterday
