I rely on a proper relationship. i think its foolish to place the majority of faith in words in a book.
faith in WHAT or whom tho?
The minute you toss the book out (the book that the eyewitnesses
who God directly spoke to, worked thru or gave commands to,)
you have begun to make up your own god & religion according to
YOUR OWN beliefs...
If you're just going on your own beliefs about God, then you have
NO way to test your beliefs to see if you have the RIGHT God.
(God gave us a bible to be able to do just that - it was given
becuz He wasn't going to continue doing open miracles to prove
Himself to the world for all time... He did that once to prove Himself [via Christ], and now we are given His words to use instead of leaning on visible proof -
FAITH - the proof is fulfilled)
It looks to me like you take SOME of the bible & form beliefs, then
toss the other parts out that make you uncomfortable, or you
don't understand or you dislike....
(what bothers me most is that even most faithful adherants
of false religions don't dare do this & live by their own beliefs as if their holy books are faulty or unable
to teach them truth).
This is creating your own religion & denying that the what they wrote
was even true. You're saying "I reject their eyewitness testimony where
I decide it's not true"
This is Western postmodernism at its finest hour. The Western world has made
a practice of cherry picking various "truths" from several religions they follow & tossing out what they dislike from them.
How does that make truth when the religions compete against one another
in truth statements? It doesn't make truth, it makes people their own gods by
making up what they decide they like or what they think works.
YOU have become your own spiritual leader & authority and have set
yourself up to become unteachable to learn truth at that point.
VERY dangerous place to put yourself.
If you cannot be taught by the people who God dealt with firsthand - to relay
His message, then you have decided YOU KNOW MORE THAN THEY DID.
Would anyone say the same of any other ancient religion's founders/leaders? That they know MORE than those who started the religion? How arrogant in my opinion.
How very arrogant to think we posess more knowledge & understanding to reject what they were led to write.
I don't have that much faith In myself!
