TL although the post wasn't to you I appreciate your response, and I believe it to be true that you do the best you can, as does probably the OP. But may I ask how do you determine spiritual or moral truth? (I am not implying that this cannot be done without Scripture I am only asking if not with Scripture and the Tradition of the church then what do you base knowledge of absolute truth on?)

God is my authority. But, God is not the Bible. I cannot 100% trust waht man has written for man is easily corrupt, man easily misinterperates and man often abuses the power of their position to make things the way they want them.

And see this is the heart of the matter. How do we know Gods will in the matter? For many the Scriptures are the final authority. Obviously for you it is not, so what is your final authority?

I don't believe there is a "real" God which is "of no use". There is only one. But those who use selected scripture to harm others have a concept of a god which is not good.

No, YOU don't know for sure - others DO know what & who is true.

I find this very common that people who deny scripture authenticity
often apply 'not knowing' to everyone else; as if nobody CAN know
something is true just becuz they cannot accept it themselves.

& you're statement "we do the best we can".... that's been man's trouble,
he cannot do well on his own.

God didn't leave us to blindly meander thru life hoping we do ok -
we trust in Him & HIS wisdom/word/teaching & Spirit to lead & guide us... not "do the best we can" in our own strength & mentality.

Sorry but 'doing the best we can' is just not good enough and God
offers alot more than this.

But everyone else uses their own set of standards too -
what makes yours right? Just becuz you feel ok with them?

People who do wife swapping have standards too - they both agree
on having extramarital sex as long as the other partners knows
about it & usually have an agreement that it's just physical, not
'emotional' w/ the outside party.

So it all depends on what you base your standards on; unless you're
asserting that morality is all relative.

People in other countries believe that honor killings are good & right -
to kill their own family members if they abandon Islam or shame the
family.
How do you tell them that honor killings are bad? They use
common sense too which is what their faith calls for.

It was not my intention to imply that you are not a moral person or that you don't have standards. My intention was to ask you what is the final standard? What settles the matter for you? I cannot be common sense because everyone claims to use common sense and all come to differing conclusions.

Personally, I put no limits on how much intimacy is allowed before marriage. I think there is nothing wrong with having sex before marriage.
