  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, how much intimacy should be allow in a relationship? Some think that kissing someone your not married to, even though your in a relationship, is sexually immorally. Some think that its ok to do everything minus the actual act of intercourse.

Thoughts? Opinions? Arguments for either side?

Well it really depends how close you are to the other person.

Having sex with someone you aren't really close to is rarely a good idea. Being physically restrained with someone you are very close to probably isn't going to hurt, it certainly won't lead to any regrets if the relationship later turns bad.

For my money, a marriage certificate doesn't magically make sex OK, its a much more complicated issue, that has everything to do with the relationship in question and the maturity of the partners.

Sorry if that sounds like a fudge answer, but maybe you could give a few specifics of the situation?

That's pretty much my view as well. There's nothing magical about the paper.

On the subject of the marriage certificate:

A piece of paper does not make a marriage. Sex is okay when a man and a women* have made the vows to God and each other (and God back) to be together forever. When a state says "marriage" they mean tax deduction, not the joining of a man and women in God.

*not the place to pick an Adam and Steve fight...

its not about a piece of paper

its about making a commitment to someone for the rest of your life

but if the commitment is real then a certificate of marriage should be no problem at all...I think the label of marriage helps the parties in question to think through the decision and be sure and not just say they are sure so they can have sex

I will disagree and agree.

-Marriage is a commitment two people make to the Lord, and secondly to each other.

+I didn't mean to denigrate the acquirement of the paper in any way.

Let me ask you Lynn, what "god" did Jesus and the Apostles worship?

And was this "god" of no use to Jesus and the Apostles?

I don't believe there is a "real" God which is "of no use". There is only one. But those who use selected scripture to harm others have a concept of a god which is not good.

I could say that about the LGBT movement as well.

Not accurately.

They are the one's looking to oppress for advancement. Not to mention they disrespect God (God haters), and not to mention the above statement and statements by TL in this thread shows back-biting, slander, approving of others who do sin... etc...

Unsupportable assertions, all.

All I can do is pray for you Lynn because if your church is teaching you these things, you are more Muslim or Buddhist or something else. IOW, if you see Jesus as a prophet or a teacher that is not what a Christian is. That's Muslim.

If I'm getting the wrong picture here of what you believe about God of the OT and how you view Jesus differently, then please, the church would like to hear it without the back biting please.

I've not said those things. As for "backbiting"--I would suggest accusing others of saying things they did not say is equivalent.

Please understand it is not my intention to be confrontational, but I must ask; if you don't believe the Scriptures to be authoritative then how do you know God's will?

No one knows for sure. We do the best we can.
