I have taken the liberty of forwarding this to the proper authorities. We'll all be able to kick back and watch Kanye being paraded, handcuffed, in front of the TV cameras tonight as the reporters drone on about him being charged with "statutory rape"...
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to foo-oswald again.

Gah...I hate how this forum promotes free love. I don't want to spread myself around anymore :(

It would take too long for me to go through all of the bands that I absolutely detest, and to be honest, I don't really see a point in doing so. I also don't see how objective listeners can really hate any genre, as there is usually at least one redeeming artist within each genre that makes it worth listening to.

Jacob (actually, I think both Jacobs fall in this category)-- I'm not exactly sure I understand why you hate U2.

The Edge (along with Marr from the Smiths) basically saved the guitar as an instrument. In a time when it was all about masturbatory tap solos and then out of nowhere, The Edge records the guitar tone from "Wire" on the Unforgettable Fire from the balcony of the building U2 was recording in and miked the sound from the ground to create natural reverb and beautiful delay.

Also, if you line up the progressions of both U2 and Radiohead, the similarities are uncanny.

Both bands started with a pretty unoriginal sound:
Boy/October are both comparable to Pablo Honey
Then they both changed their sound, making them more distinct:
War/The Unforgettable Fire are both comparable to the Bends
Then they completely blew our collective minds:
The Joshua Tree is comparable to OK Computer
Then they went for a more experimental/electronic sound:
Actung Baby/Zaroopa/Pop are all comparable to Kid A/Amnesiac
Then they came back with albums that were a little more rock oriented:
All That You Can't Leave Behind/How to Dismantle... are both comparable to Hail to the Thief.

There was a time that I didn't really see the genius of U2, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that without them, there would be no Radiohead.

If you've ever deserved Rep points for a post, this is the one. I wish I could Rep you, but...

All I can do is proclaim that I agree wholeheartedly. Damn straight...

Actually, I thought U2 did the iPod commercials for free. I could very well be wrong though.

I've never listened to a U2 album all the way through, so I know my judgments could be unfounded, but they've just never appealed to me. I've checked out all their most popular songs, and was unmoved. I guess I really just don't care for Bono as a public figure. I guess I question the hype of any band that reaches huge popularity, but who knows...maybe I'll fall for U2 one day.

I had very similar feelings for a long time. Then I heard Pop (which is probably most U2 fan's least favorite album). And Pop reminded me alot of Kid A, mostly in that it was an electronica album that was completely different from everything else that I had heard by the band. After that, everything else sort of fell into place for me. Sure, the new material isn't as good as the old material (Hail to the Thief isn't as good as the old Radiohead material, but they are still my favorite band).

I'd say listen through Pop and then the Joshua Tree. If your still not impressed then they might just not be your cup of tea.

U2 didn't make a dime off the ITunes thing. They did it for free. Bono has said so himself in many interviews. The only thing ITunes related that they make money off is the sale of their box set, which is selling their music. So they're entitled.

I also was the absolute BIGGEST critic of their Zooropa/Pop days. But looking back, and having read (actually reading) Bono's autobiography, if you look back at the history of the band, and what they were trying to accomplish by putting out those albums, they are a group of 4 genuises. It was all with a plan in mind.

Everyone shouted that they sold out, commercialized, etc., during the JT/Rattle and Hum days. So what did they do? A series of albums that exploited that accusation. People thought they were being serious, when all they were doing was playing off what everyone accused them of. Genius.

I hate chicken fried steak, whenever people lose all semblance of proper usage of their native language when online, how living fish feel, wedgies, those ugly furry boots that are in style, pickles, cold showers, McDonald's hamburgers, and your mom.

heh only thing that makes sense to me in there.

i don't see the point in bashing singers. if you don't like them, plug your ears. i don't see the point in vocalizing your dislikes. =\
although hmm....i hate dogs, undercooked potatoes, buses, and oh...when food is so hot it burns your tongue.
does anyone care?

that's what i thought.
