The reality is that near me, they are having to rent refrigerated trucks to house the dead because the morgues are full from this virus.

This isn't just a cold. It is currently tearing through the US at over 6x the rate of the flu. It is killing more than the flu, suicide, and car accidents combined and only getting worse.

We had your dismissive attitude not too long ago and so did italy. Now we have a pile of corpses to contend with. Wake up.

She's been exposed and is waiting to see if she tests positive, as is her entire workplace. what is being reported is actually downplaying how bad it is. Actually many not life threatening injury. A wound that should have been a near nothing of just clean, bandage and get a tetanus shot can be life threatening if those are neglected. Next step is an illness that would be nothing as long as mommy can feed you chicken soup becomes life threatening if mommy is not even in condition to feed herself.

The nasty thing is when society is still far from that, when the above seems still on the distant horizon it may already too late.

Why would the "government" want to keep everything closed indefinitely?

Conspiracy-thinking. Some people have this odd belief that the government will use this crisis to stifle our rights. I lived through a brief period of a form of martial law here in Quebec back in 1970 - after the crisis was over, all rights were restored.

Exactly. The powers that be want to downplay the real numbers. In other countries official counts are only thiose who die in hospitals. Home and nursing home or senior home deaths are excluded.

The president isn't perfect, he should of banned anyone coming in or out , once news hit about China, and quarentine returning Americans. However I don't see your side blaming Obama or the Democrats for their failures ,or supporting The President in banning travel from bat eating China, calling it "Xenophobic" , the then when the China virus hits you say " he failed" . There enough blame for everyone!

People die in WW1 and WW2 in huge numbers , we never restricted Americans to this extent, people died in huge numbers during the 1918 Spanish flu outbreak, yet we left things up to the states, and even then , most normal life went on.
