  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good News Indeed, but then... WHAT IS IT!?

One of the deeply entrenched, and yet non-Biblical, ideas is that Jesus cannot be King over an imperfect world. Nowhere is this asserted in the Bible and, in fact, 1 Corinthians 15 says clearly that Jesus will indeed be King during a time interval during which enemies will be defeated, the last being death.

I politely suggest we are seduced by "Sunday School" ideas that everything has to be perfect if Jesus is running the show. Well, that is not what the Scriptures actually teach.

good news is only good for those who have a need for it and whose eyes have been opened, otherwise it's just another irrelevant news.

Or, those with "ears to hear"; good soil. . .

It is you who really need to explain things: you appear to think that if God is going to pour wrath on the earth in the future, Jesus cannot be king now. Why do you believe that?

For my part, I will state what I think is obvious: Jesus can be king over an imperfect world that, yes, will be judged in the future. This is spelled out clearly in 1 Corinthians 15 where Paul writes that Jesus will rule until all enemies are defeated. This says that during parts of Jesus' reign not all enemies will be defeated. And so these enemies will indeed be dealt with during Jesus reign.

Of course he is not Jesus - that is why it is an analogy. The point is this: just as strife in the USA does not means Mr. Obama cannot really be the president, so it is that strife in the broader world does not mean Jesus is not King.
Again, you did not answer the question....please do so or just don't respond. I already said that Jesus is King of the spriitual Kingdom....His physical Kingdom is still to come....

I answered your question - I stated that problems will be dealt with during Jesus reign. One way that could happen is through the pouring of wrath.

This was the question:
Then why, in Revelation, does God pour out his wrath upon the earth? Certainly not because he is displeased with the rule of Jesus? The prince of the air rules the earth at this time and will until Jesus comes again.....
You have not answered it....please do so.....

In another thread some discussion going on (trying to go on) about what the gospel IS
and isn't.
Please share your thoughts on what IS the Gospel.
The good news, proved definitively by Jesus life, death, and resurrection, is that God EXISTS, in case we might only pay Him lip-service at best, that God is GOOD, goodness itself, that God is infinitely TRUSTWORTHY, in spite of our doubt, that God LOVES, He's love itself, loving man with an unquenchable fire, boundless: ineffable love that we only begin to grasp by pondering the cross on which He was willing to suffer and die an excruciatingly humiliating and painful death in order to prove that love-in spite of our sinfulness. Love triumphs over the daily evil-pain, suffering, and death-we experience, that we know, in this exile from Eden. The light entered the world. It proves that goodness and love are foundational to this universe-and that darkness will not be tolerated forever.

I most certainly did answer it - see two posts ago. I will not repeat what is a clear answer.

The good news,

is that God EXISTS .. is GOOD ... TRUSTWORTHY ... LOVES, The light entered the world. It proves that goodness and love are foundational to this universe-and that darkness will not be tolerated forever.

The Jews knew all this already, and that they were the Chosen Ones...

The light entered the world.

THAT is the Good News - And more than that, we can attain to that Light by repentance...

How about the answer being in here somewhere...

Rom9:22] What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
[23] And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory.

Is that not specific enough to the narrative?

You did not answer the question. Why does God pour out his wrath on earth if the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth is present and it is ruled by Jesus? That makes no sense at all....please give you position on that.
BTW, Obama is not Jesus, so really bad analogy.....

BAd things happen bc we have choice, he wanted us to love him and come to him willingly not little robots...bad things happen in world bc no one is christlike at alll times,

We are all dead in sin, we are all bound to go to Hell, BUT there is good news:

Christ laid down His life, and then rose from the dead three days later, defeating sin and death and winning a decisive and final victory over sin and death. We can share in this victory if we repent from our evil ways, and turn to Him, accept His sacrifice and be born again so that we can be born in the Spirit, that way when our physical body dies, our sins will die with it, we will live on with Him in Heaven.

That, to me, is what the "Good News" is. The Door to Heaven has been opened. Christ is the Door through which we can enter Heaven, and it is available to everybody, regardless of age, race, creed, or gender. God is not a respecter of persons; it doesn't matter who you are, as long as you repent, turn from your evil ways, renounce sin, put it out of your life and learn Christ's ways. Doesn't matter who you were, what you did, you get to start over with a clean slate in His eyes. Sure, you will have to live with the consequences of what you did in your past, but once your life is over, your new life will begin once you arrive in your True Home: Heaven.

Heaven begins, for those who follow Christ taking up their own cross and dying to this life, right here on earth, here and now... The Kingdom of Heaven is here and now... For those who are willing to follow after our Lord...

ridiculous. even Christ says 'my kingdom is not of this world' Jn18:36.
this world is NOT heaven, thus the Kingdom of heaven is NOT here and now.

what you probably meant is that those who are of the kingdom of heaven are here and now.

It is not "ridiculous", it is clearly Biblical that the kingdom is here now. There is a translation problem with John 18:36. Jesus seems to be saying "My kingdom does include this present material world of space, time, and matter".

As it turns out, there is a huge translation issue here. Here is the rendering of verse 36 as per the NET Bible:

Jesus replied, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my servants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.

The NET version is, my sources indicate, true to the original Greek. The greek word that is rendered “from” (above in the bolded and underlined cases) has the following definition:

“a primary preposition denoting origin (the point whence action or motion proceeds), from, out (of place, time, or cause; literal or figurative; direct or remote)

When the word is used properly, we see that the “not of this world” reading is misleading. The intended meaning is that the Kingdom that has been brought to earth is from Heaven - that is, Heaven is the point of origin for the Kingdom that has been initiated.
