Bumped since it came up on another thread. The purity of the salt in some deposits, the presence of pollens and meteorite dust and the salt varves in some deposits all show that these deposits from from evaporative basins over long periods of time.

That is nice, but you never did show how the "pollens" & "meteorite dust" got into the salt. The arguement remains the same. Purist YECers believe that God created the massive salt deposits the way we find them. Well, no arguement there, the question is how long did it take for God to create them and how did God create them. YECers try to say this took place is a very short period of time. Evo's believe it took place over a long period of time.

From what little I remember about geology, both salt and limestone have very pure deposits and they also have very dirty deposits. Here in Ohio the dirty limestone is a lot cheaper to buy for your driveway compared to the more pure white limestone. Perhaps the pure salt is more expensive. Of course this is symbolic of believer and unbeliever. The believer is pure, but the unbeliver is still filthy from being polluted by the world.

If the salt did come up from the mist, or subteranean waters, I would think it would be pure. Now, once on the surface pre flood, it would in places receive some pollens, and stuff. The purer salt would resemble purer salt left by the process of evaporation. Is that all there is to the mystery, or is there a tricky part somewhere?

Swing and a miss. What subterranian waters?
The ones that used to be there pre flood, and from which the mist came up to water the earth! Also, the waters that came up as the fountains of the deep were opened in the flood. The ones no longer, therefore there. Those ones.
