I respect any person of faith but...
One time when Jesus was speaking, a woman in the crowd proclaimed, "Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed" (Luke 11:27). There was never a better opportunity for Jesus to declare that Mary was indeed worthy of praise and adoration. What was Jesus' response? "On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it" (Luke 11:28). To Jesus, obedience to God's Word was more important than being the woman who gave birth to the Savior.

Stick around. You seem like a nice bloke. We all have our own beliefs. Your not required to agree.Anyway get back to your discussion people, I don't want to stop you. God bless.

I'm a Protestant in the fine tradition of the baptists and the Pentecostals. I have a mixed background. Cherry picking scripture is what this thread is about, not what I do. I'm surprised that people think they have something new to bring to the table regarding books that aren't canon. Do you really think the question hadn't been posed before? Reminds me of cult leaders and their "new revelations ". The fact that this is affecting peoples walk more than the Gospels concerning Jesus should be a red light for everyone...
I'll have a proper read of it some time since you asked but I won't be changing my mind on it just yet.
I must add that beauty and emotion shouldn't move us beyond truth and wisdom.
There's a completely different attitude towards scripture in Catholicism, predominantly.
Tobit is Scripture where Enoch isn't.
To don't think that was the criteria. The whole Bible is weird.
I knew you'd disagree for the reason that you stated but that reason is not biblical. The bible does not teach that baptism means a public testimony to your faith. So even though baptism does involve public testimony it is not the meaning of the rite. Hence your belief is not biblical and you have not set yourself free from extra-biblical practises and beliefs.I disagree. Baptism is an important step for any Christian, although it's not necessary for salvation. If you're freed from extra biblical nonsense then why are you a Baptist? That whole credo baptism as a witness of your faith before the congregation (the public testimony thing) is extra biblical.
Tobit is canonical while Enoch is notInteresting point. What would you say is the difference between Tobit and Enoch, if any?
Yes, it is quite a strange book but you believe it, why?To don't think that was the criteria. The whole Bible is weird.

Oh great! Then what is the meaning? No one said it was the meaning of the rite.
Carry on your discussion guys.

Got no biblical answer eh?"Carry on your discussion guys."
You've missed the point of what Jesus was saying. He is correcting the woman in the crowd by explaining the real reason why His mother is blessed.I respect any person of faith but...

Here is what we know, the writers of the o.t. taught works, NOT GRACE. Jesus taught the disciples GRACE, not works. Paul tried to mash them together in some sort of compromise postition that makes absolutely no sense at all. Here is what we don't know, why the people who selected the books of the bible missed the fact that these 3 groups of writers did not share the same theology.
