I am very interested in joining the Orthodox church. I simply dont know how to start. I have never been very religious before, I only went to a few baptist churchs but never really enjoyed it. I also have no friends in a orthodox church. Should i just call up the local orthodox priest?

Absolutely! Find the local Orthodox Churches, contact a priest, and arrange to visit services. He will hopefully be very helpful, and can advise you and teach you about the faith so you may one day make the decision to convert, should that be your desire.

If you need help finding a church, we're pretty good at that if you let us know the general town/area that you live in

It's not exhaustive but it is an excellent start (thre are a lot of mission churches not listed there... so do not dispare if there is not one near you according to the site).

My husband is Swedish-Norwegian. He loves the Orthodox Church. You won't be the only Orthodox Viking.

Oh...and, if you have lots of choices around you for Orthodox Churches, visit them ALL for which one might feel most comfortable to you. Best of luck!

I'm a Celt who converted, but unfortunately English-language services are hard to come-by here in Australia

Not in this country.

English language services with the Greek Orthodox Church is almost on an ad hoc basis. The English service will be at one parish one week, then another the next week, and so on, on rotation through about 6 different churches, one tens of kilometres away.

The Antiochian Church has an English language service with a priest who can't speak proper English, who keeps breaking into Arabic

It's (Scots-)Gaelic*; it's the beginnings of "Hail Mary"

It reads "Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with Thee"

-*which is very similar to Irish.

wow its so interesting to read alot of testimonies abt people being orthodox christians.

well my story is nothing great. my dad married a catholic and when they got married the condition from my mom's catholic church was that my mom and future kids would be baptised in the catholic church. so i was baptised in the catholic church but over the years as i grew up, i got very influnced by my dad's orthodox church that we used to go every sunday. eventually i became an orthodox as well as my mom.

traditionally my dad's family are orthodox christians. our family was converted by St. Thomas and since then for many centuries our family are orthodox christians.

oh by the way, i belong to the malankara syrian orthodox church from India. well thats about it, nothing exciting i guess.

im so glad to meet alot of orthodox christians from around the world. im quite new in here and hope to make a lot of friends in here.
