The "great city" expression is used 10 times in Revelation, the first 9 are about the harlot city. The last time is about the new Jerusalem.

In Ezekiel 16, God proclaimed His love for the city of Jerusalem, and gives an analogy to cleansing a harlot, dressing her with fine jewels, and then marrying her. Jerusalem was originally a city of the pagan Jebusites called Jebus. King David was given to conquer it. Later in Ezek.16, God reveals how Jerusalem played the harlot against him in false worship. So that's is where one finds this harlot city link back in the OT applied to Jerusalem.

And what main event is to occur in today's Jerusalem for the end? The building of another temple and the start up of old covenant sacrifices again, and the appearance of the pseudo-Christ who will end the sacrifices and instead place an idol abomination there for all to worship. That... is when Jerusalem will become that harlot city idea of Revelation.

You have not missed the fact that the Bible book of Revelation was written long after her destruction in around 96 CE in Asia Minor? She was destroyed about 70 CE.

You are right that she was the foreshadow of the spiritual Babylon the Great to come. Just as every thing to do with that nation she governed were shadows of spiritual things to come. Both the foreshadow and the spiritual fulfillment are religious entities.

Hence the congregation you speak of is the spiritual Israel in the flesh and the same thing Paul said at Romans 9:6 of the foreshadow (which was those fleshly descendants know as Israel) can be said of the spiritual Israel (the congregation being built up to God) while it grows in the fleshly realm of this wicked world. The congregation's leaders and teachers are as that Jerusalem of old except spiritually.

I disagree. Old covenant Israel was completely destroyed. The old covenant ended. There will never again be a city or people who God will re-establish the Old covenant with. The new covenant is here to stay.

One might ask, how could one living in the time of Christ be responsible for the blood of Abel, whom Cain slew. It is because they are of the same family, the same generation of evil, the same seed of the snake, the same generation of Vipers, with the very same spirit to kill the Lord's elect. Note God says to them all the righteous blood shed upon the earth shall come upon them. Just as God says of Babylon because it is the congregation, not physical city, just as Christ spoke of.

Who is Christ talking to? And who did he send the prophets, and who killed them? Was it the world? Was it physical city Jersualem? Or the people within the congregation? Moreover, was the blood of Abel and all the prophets only required of people living at that specific time? Of course not, that makes no sense. The truth is that the generation Christ spoke of is the generation of evil, the generation of Vipers, the family/generation of the spirit of Antichrist which existed in the day of Abel unto today! It is a spiritual family who is responsible for the blood of Abel to the Last Elect on earth! Consider Babylon the Great wisely:

That the blood of all come upon her. And those within her gathered together to the Mount of Megiddo, or Armageddon, where God will finally deal with them once and for all. • And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
• Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
• Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers."

In other words, they were of the same family of those who killed the prophets, the same spirits, with the same father, the Devil. The same cup that their fathers filled, they fill also. The same responsibility for killing God's servants their fathers had, they have also. You see, these people believed that they were doing God service by persecuting God's servants and eliminating them. Same as the Church, Pastors, Ministers and Parishioners today! They all have the same spirit to fight against the Spirit of God witnessing the pure word. As saith the preacher, there is nothing new under the sun.

Matthew 23:35-38

• "That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
• Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
• O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
• Behold, your house is left unto you desolate."

And indeed the Old Testament congregation's abomination has left it desolate. Indeed, all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel whom Cain slew, to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, all fell upon that generation or family.

One might ask, how could one living in the time of Christ be responsible for the blood of Abel, whom Cain slew. It is because they are of the same family, the same generation of evil, the same seed of the snake, the same generation of Vipers, with the very same spirit to kill the Lord's elect. Note God says to them all the righteous blood shed upon the earth shall come upon them. Just as God says of Babylon because it is the congregation, not physical city, just as Christ spoke of.

Luke 11:49-50

• "Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
• That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;"

Who is Christ talking to? And who did he send the prophets, and who killed them? Was it the world? Was it physical city Jersualem? Or the people within the congregation? Moreover, was the blood of Abel and all the prophets only required of people living at that specific time? Of course not, that makes no sense. The truth is that the generation Christ spoke of is the generation of evil, the generation of Vipers, the family/generation of the spirit of Antichrist which existed in the day of Abel unto today! It is a spiritual family who is responsible for the blood of Abel to the Last Elect on earth! Consider Babylon the Great wisely:

Revelation 17:6-7

• "And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
• And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns."

The mystery or "secret of the imagery" is that the Woman represents the Church, and it is this entity that is drunken with the blood of the prophets. It is the unfaithful congregation that has her lips dripping with the words of interposition to block God's precepts with the words of men. Or as God puts it, to have the lawless man (man of sin) rule in the Holy Temple. This is the killer responsible and this is how she slays the witnesses of God and must be judged. That the blood of all come upon her. And those within her gathered together to the Mount of Megiddo, or Armageddon, where God will finally deal with them once and for all. Even while they sit in Church thinking they are worshipping God when they actually worship the false Christ, Pseudo Christ, Anti-Christ spirit that caused them to reject truth and lean upon the doctrines of men.

Therefore, the great city is not physical Jerusalem. Is not United Nations. Is not the Papal System. She is a congregation once faithfully represented God for the past 2,000 years before she has become a harlot with false prophets and christs ruling within which is happening today. Benny Hinn, Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyers, Todd White, Joseph Prince, etc. They all come with spirit of antichrist with power from Satan deceive many with propersity gospel, entertainments, dispensationalism, women pastors, charismatic doctrines, dispenstatliosnistm gospel, divorce and remarriage, etc. etc. The purpose of their doctrines is to deceive many people within the congregation "thinking" these leaders are from God and they LOVE them! This is how they are giving their kingdom (church) to Satan because of he, as a spirit, works through false prophets and christs. And God actually allowed it as part of His judgment upon his unfaithful congregation. Paul wrote about this:

2Th 2:9-12

• Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
• And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
• And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
• That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

You have a very good grasp on reality.

I have been pushing to try and get as many as possible to learn to use the Greek text properly so that they stand a chance at seeing this for themselves. For the entire growth of this antichrist composite figure is given us by the Bible writers but they have hidden it from themselves by many means, including by stepping all around proper understanding of the Biblical languages, conforming it so that they do not have to see what it really says. 2 Thessalonians 2:10 hits the nail sharply on the head. No one can find the truth to love it when they pervert the Greek to suite what they want it to say.

Paul forewarned what would happen once he and those like him who had the commission and of God through the holy spirit to restrain that apostasy leave the scene of this world:
Acts 20:29-31
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

Paul shows how the worldly pseudo-Christians get into God's house of this tent of flesh (which as the chapter continues we see is through foolish builders that fell prey to worldly wisdom). But here are those builders:
1 Corinthians 3:9-10
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

But most would rather look right past that and believe the wood, hay, and stubble means only what they build into their own character, forgetting or paying no attention to the fact that Paul is speaking about building the temple congregation of God.
