  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yesterday was Australia's hottest day on record, according to preliminary data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

The average temperature across the country was 40.9 (105.6 F) degrees Celsius, breaking the mark of 40.3C (104.5 F) set in January 2013, but it's a record unlikely to last for long.

Temperatures were well over 45C (113 F) for much of the interior — the location record (50.7C [123.3 F] at Oodnadatta) is still safe — but the wide spread of exceptional heat meant the national average record was broken.

The heat is expected to keep building over the next few days as the air mass moves across the country.

Yesterday was Australia's hottest day ever – but it's a record unlikely to last long

It's at times like these where I do not regret having left Australia 2 years ago. Some things are best viewed from a distance!

It depends a lot on where you live. They're copping it down south, especially Adelaide, and I would not want to be anywhere inland at the moment.

I'm on the north coast of NSW, next to the actual ocean. Today its a balmy 25 C (77 F).

Unfortunately it will get a lot hotter here - and we're only two weeks into summer. :(

I was in Adelaide. Lovely city which I'd happily move back to.

Most Canadians would be pleased to export some of our winter to Australia --- maybe split the shipping costs but the product is free?

You're on - it's a deal!

I'll take two dozen snow to go.

I want to say send me back to Australia along with the snow bc I'm so over this. I was in Australia during our summer, their winter, it was amazing. I loved it. I want to study there. But the fires there are so so so so so awful it's not even just the heat it's the terrible terrible air quality. It's just heartbreaking. Did you see the video of the lady who literally ripped her shirt off to save this koala who was being burned alive? It's heartbreaking. I hate that that's gonna happen again. It makes me cry.

Zoii is Australian, I think she does a good job talking about what's going on in Australia on here. This is a thread she made if you want to read it. It's in the kids section so you can't post but you can read if you want. :)

Thanks Cimorene. I'm familiar with @Zoii  through the Forum. We've tag teamed a couple of times on issues like SSM and religious freedom. I suspect that, like me, she's waiting anxiously for the final outcome of the Pell affair and the outcome of the Australian legislation covering religious freedom.

I hate the heat here in Australia, but then I would be happy with it never over 18C, my bad luck.
The animals domestic and native, that are affected with the fires is devastating.
Then there is the drought on top of it.:(

Three months ago I drove from Northern NSW to Melbourne, and back, via the inland route. What struck me most were the number of towns/villages on high level water restrictions and seeing inland rivers reduced to intermittent ponds.

I thought we were OK for water where I live on the coast. I've just heard that water restrictions have now been brought in for the first time in 15 years.

LOL
You don't need to live in the Outback to experience the heat, the fires, the drought and the water shortages.
I live on the coast in one of the (normally) greener bits; it hasn't rained for months; big bushfires came within 10 km (6miles) of where I live and we're on water restrictions. For the past three or four weeks we've had a continuous smoke haze and a light rain of ash and burnt leaves. Even Sydney has been suffering with heavy smoke from bushfires.

The fires are burning along the east coast, a little inland but not in the Outback. As of 15 December, the fires have burnt over 3 million hectares (7 and a half million acres) destroyed over 700 houses and claimed 6 lives. These fires won't be out for months. Given high temperatures and strong winds in the wrong direction, it will all be off again.

What you guys really need it is a bit of wind now from the Roaring Forties...right? :)

Winds the last thing we want with all the fires, we dont have it anywhere near as bad as the East Coast but we have had a few here too.

Well, I see what you mean...

Maybe it's even hotter inland by places in WA such as Kalgoorlie-Boulder...
