It's unclear: "Satan" is derived from a Hebrew word meaning "adversary", but considering names mean something Satan may be his "created name" or it may be more of a title.

Speaking of mysteries, do you think there's some things we werent' meant to know?

There's speculation the fruit in Eden wasn't an apple but was another fruit or a fruit that doesn't currently exist. It's a huge mystery.

So satan in the OT isn't a malicious being like he is in the NT?
That is a tougher question to answer. In its own context of the story, 'satan' is doing a task for which he had permission from God. The character was given permission to test Job. The whole book is troubling and is meant to trouble us. It is inconsistent with how God is in other books. So, my view is that Job is meant to be a troubling book. It is intended to disturb us if we are comfortable. But, it should not be used to disturb those who are suffering now.

In the NT, the devil is definitely malicious and is in rebellion to God.

He was among the sons of God, not one of them.

Oh I totally think that some things are just mystery for us! I think it makes study and curiosity so valuable.

Just Genesis : Adam Was a Red Man

In the ancient Hebrew world, a person’s name was not simply an identifier but descriptive of one's character. As Adam was formed out of the ground, his name identifies his origins. (From here.)

Though the story of red Adam comes originally from the Upper Nile, the account was preserved by his Edomite descendants, one of whom was Abraham. Abraham's territory was between Hebron and Beersheba. As can be seen from the map below, his territory was entirely in the region of Edom. The people who lived there had a reddish skin tone. That is why the Greeks called this region Idumea, meaning "land of red people."

Why do you think we deserve hell because Adam and Eve believed the lies of the devil?

It's a mystery if he tempted us so people would go to hell or not, but either way-why woud it be fair?

We all deserve hell because., like Adam and Eve we do not obey the Words of the Lord God of the Holy Bible, and reject all that He says. We are ALL sinners and guilty before the Holy God of the Bible. All sin must be punished, either in Jesus Christ, which He did on the cross, and available to all who will truly repent, and turn to Jesus as their Saviour and Lord; or those who reject what the Lord says, will be punished in eternal hell. This is God's Justice and not open to discussion with Him.

So we don't know if they a totally different race than exists today? I heard they could have been all the races.

Not that it matters.

What Adam or Jesus looked like to me are irrelvant mysteries.
GOD made man. HE doesn't save man based on his color or his race

HE saves the man who turns to CHRIST

The 'satan' in Job is a member of the celestial court. The devil in the NT is not the same character and is outside the court.
Satan was cast down. He is not a member of the host of GOD's angels anymore

But, in Genesis 2 God creates humanity (Adam) before the plants and animals.
I don't agree. As it says in Genesis 2:1 through Genesis 2:5, HE had made everything already
and had rested from HIS work

Genesis 2 elaborates on man's involvement in the care of and dominion over the lower living things

Because Adam and Eve were cast out from the original home and the WAY back to the original home was blocked (lest a man, who does not know the WAY back should eat of the tree of life and live forever)

GOD provided THE WAY

And as one poster stated, there is no open discussion with GOD or questioning why it must be

Certainly not with HIS SON's sacrifice

Then NOTHING God made is "perfect" for in HIS Word, everything is described as "good" or "very good". However, YOU are just 'picking at straws' here, playing on words. ENOUGH. EVERYTHING El Shaddai made was made to complete PERFECTION. It was the fallen angel who lured mankind to sin.

How could God knowing the outcome of his actions, complain later that he wish he hadn't done it?

Everything laid out in GOD's WORD ultimately had ONE PURPOSE

To bring us to CHRIST
Which is a truth of consciousness, and internal truth. Everything is identity, and the book about the one thing Jesus spoke of as being the most important above all others, our soul.

Check into the two versions of David numbering the people.

It seems even of the one God said was didn't go over so well either, unless you consider it as being by design.
Yes, by design man is a finite child of God growing through experience to the potential of eternal life. Hence we will continue to grow after this life.

The narrative about a one time golden age of perfection and the steady decline of man is human speculation and conjecture. There is obviously much, much more to the story.

Couldn't agree more, and for the individual, it becomes more and more relevant to them (to use the language of the bible) every time he appears, or we behold his face, after all he is the word of God, which God defines via relationship.

I would like to reply to every post in this thread in an ongoing in depth way, but it would be like chasing foxes, yet the seed is cast, and what grows is in what manner the seed is recieved.

There's no indication Satan was "cast down", or even a fallen angel let alone one of God's higher-ups. The only time he appears in the Old Testament is in Job, where he only does what God allows.

It wasn't until the NT where things developed into the view that God was all good and did no evil and anything evil was attributed to Satan, despite the Old Testament having it more that God did both good and evil and Satan was like his prosecuting attorney.

Romans 10 says it better
