Asking a question as a diversion is not nipping anything in the bud. Comment on the wording in the narrative. It says that the Lord opened Lydia's heart so that she listened to the apostles. You didn't even touch it.

    What are you afraid of?

Afraid? What is there to be afraid of?

I answered the OP's question on the very first page.

And to be clear, the OP has nothing to do with her state after her heart was opened, although that would make a good discussion, too.

You said that if left to ourselves no one would believe. I think the op was asking if no one could believe.

The question was, "Why was it necessary for Jesus to open her heart? What was wrong with her in the first place?” To which my response was, “because it was closed”. Simple, straight forward answer. And yet here we are 7 pages later and you are still claiming no one has answered your question.

Why can't a closed heart respond positively to the gospel?

Why can't you acknowledge your question was answered?

Your answer was akin to me asking my son why the refrigerator door is open, and his reply being "because it's not closed."

Why can't a closed heart respond positively to the gospel?

It's your question. If you want better answers ask better questions.

Why can't it respond negatively to the gospel?

Okay. If you don't want to answer, that's fine. But no need to derail the thread.

Let me get it back on track, then.

Why can't a closed heart respond positively to the gospel?

She can resist God's grace, ie, closed heart, however not reject as she had an "enslaved-will" also.

A closed heart resist due to being obdurate refusing, ie, resistible grace.
