That was a right wing narrative that was shown to be false -- it was largely natural gas plants, along with some coal and even a nuclear plant, that caused the issues in Texas. While you may complain about the ABC article, that article does include a quote by Gov. Abbott admitting, "Those coal and natural gas power generating facilities either froze up or had mechanical failure, and we're incapable of adding power to the power grid."

They aren't required to winterize their equipment. They said it failed in the winter because it is designed for heat, then it failed in the summer. Judges have ruled the power companies are not obligated to provide power in emergencies.
