The record shows I have not claimed or implied that you or I or anyone else are imagining that illegal immigration in large numbers is taking place at the southern border. The issue is the denotation of the term "invasion" in article four of the U.S. constitution being appropriated by Abbott to connote being representative of these particular illegal immigrants, only so as to be able to claim that the Biden administration failed to protect the citizenry of Texas from human traffickers, and fentanyl, etc...
The term imaginary vs the term factual.
The difference between the two is that reality dictates the truth to us and therefore facts are observed and learned, whereas imaginary things are neither observed nor learned, but conceived/perceived in the imagination of the mind. For example, if we are told through the media that whole families with babies and children have traversed through thousands of miles of jungle and desert and are now attempting to cross the border illegally into America, we imagine that they must be very desperate people and we feel compassion. On the contrary, if we hear there are rapists, drug smugglers, human traffickers, and terrorists sneaking though our borders, then we imagine there are dangerous criminals up to no good, and instead we feel a sense of danger.
While both can be true in reality, the obvious observable fact we are witnessing is that the vast majority of these immigrants are desperate people seeking a better life.
Compassion is when we see others suffer and want to do something to ease their suffering. In essence we suffer with them.
12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
16 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
17 And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
The majority of the illegal immigration are visa overstays. They have outnumbered border crossings for at least a decade, if not more. When I've brought that up elsewhere, people were ok because they originally went through the proper channels and were "vetted".
There was a program under Obama that released asylum seekers with ankle monitors. It had a 95-99% show rate (depending on the source for info) for trial regardless of whether or not they were going to be deported that was discontinued by Trump when he started all the family separation nonsense. I can't find the article I posted about this originally but this has some info.
The GOP doesn't really want to stop illegal immigration. They could target the businesses that use the labor if that were the case. We see what happened in Florida, I was told all those workers are back though. I have an acquaintance knowledgeable about these matters. I was told a lot of private prison operators who are GOP donors are also making money using private prisons to house them. They are basically criminalizing asylum seeking and keeping people the entire time until a hearing decides their fate instead of releasing them to await a decision. Detention centers also get double the money for minors because they need education and extra care. So the age for a minor has been changed in some cases from 17 and under to under 21, so they can get extra money, yet not have to provide any extra services and it looks like there are more minors than there actually are.
Trump himself was hiring illegals the entire time he was complaining about them. Only an expose caused him to fire them, and this was after he was elected president and promoting everify.
I'm ok with people being deported or denied asylum. I'm against the mistreatment and family separation. Against the dehumanization. I'd also prefer for someone to be able to earn money than have to resort to crime such as muggings etc to survive. When people have no options, they resort to crime to survive which endangers all of us. IMO, the reason our crime rates are dropping is because unemployment is so low.
Someone said Trump had no need to do an immigration bill while POTUS. He had agreed to one, but Stephen Miller and the GOP torpedoed it. Stephen Miller wanted to stop ALL immigration from non-white countries, legal or not..
Immigration is like abortion, the GOP base truly cares, but the leadership, INCLUDING all the conservatives, uses it as a tool to manipulate the base for votes. I don't understand how people can proclaim they are Christian and at the same time support the slicing and dicing of people seeking a better life and saying "well that's just what they get for coming here." They never quote Deuteronomy 10:19-19, 27:19, or Leviticus 19:33-34/ 24:22 The GOP dog caught the abortion car, it's not trying to catch the immigration one, because alot of the rhetoric used to scare and anger people does not match reality and the businesses and donors who support them want the labor.
If this was such an EMERGENCY, such an INVASION, why does congress say they can WAIT until Trump gets in office to do anything? Why aren't those 25 governors who said they support Abbott asking the representatives in congress to get something done? They are trying to play their base again and redefine "invasion" etc, and stir up anger to have an energetic electorate come November, This time I hope they are smarter since Trumps comments are public and other GOP reps having spoken out against what he has asked them to do.
In July, more than 90 percent of the average 30,000 people held daily in ICE detention were housed in private facilities, as private corporation revenues from immigrant detention soar.
