I went a mostly all white middle school and high school . It was sorta understood that if they used the n word they’d get a beat down even from people who would not normally fight . That was 50 years ago. None of them did it ( thank God). But I don’t see that that “rule” has changed . I see some ignorant people still think it’s ok to verbally abuse others. If someone hurts, insults, disrespects, or demeans you, then you want to hurt, insult, disrespect, or demean them right back.

Words are used as weapons all the time.

An underlying distaste and lack of respect for the type of person provoking them, probably.

True colours are seldom more vibrant than when a person is angry.

Very true, non racist people aren't prone to yelling racist words when angry.
