Here are the main parts of the immigration deal:
‘Border Emergency Authority’
Work permits for illegal migrants
Changes in Asylum rules
Additional funding for Border staffing and infrastructure
Increased legal immigration pathways

Separate from the border, the bill includes work permits and temporary visas for 250,000 "documented dreamers" – children of immigrants on temporary work visas who have since become adults. The bill also raises the cap on the number of green cards by 50,000 a year, the majority of which will be family-based. It also establishes an expedited pathway for Afghans who were evacuated to the U.S. to get green cards.

The Senate’s draft border bill that promised to reduce migration chaos at the border actually invites a greater inflow by welcoming migrants who seek jobs or claim asylum.

“I’ve seen enough,” said a Sunday evening tweet from House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), adding:

This bill is even worse than we expected, and won’t come close to ending the border catastrophe the President has created. As the lead Democrat negotiator proclaimed: Under this legislation, “the border never closes.”
The phrase “the border never closes” is a much-replayed quote from the top Democratic negotiator, Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT).
In a series of Sunday evening tweets, Murphy gloated that Democrats’ promised curb on illegal migration — including a much-touted border “shutdown” process — are trumped by many pro-migration rules:

“Democrats proudly proclaim new border law ‘never closes’ the border and, of course, the entire $115 billion will be borrowed,” said a tweet from Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). “Nothing, absolutely nothing, conservative about this deal.”

“’The border never closes’ -chief Democrat negotiator on the Senate bill,” tweeted Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO). “That’s all you need to know.”

Could you explain why each of these is bad (or state that they are not)?

....well duh. The US ports of entry are open to commerce 7x24, 365 days a year. But hey, if Mr Hawley really wants to "close" the border, that would certainly inflict economic harm on US border states whose economies benefit greatly from trade with Mexico. On 2nd thought, it's an election year so he would have no issue shooting ourselves in the foot if it hurt Biden....

Work permits for illegal immigrants, especially those who are also criminals in other ways? My head is spinning, seeking Guidance from Above on this latest news. Mixed thoughts on rewarding bad behavior perhaps.

OBVIOUSLY, Senator Hawley and other conservatives have a problem with illegal immigration and NOT with the legal commerce and trade through the borders of the USA.

I don't have a lot of time right now. But I don't approve of expediting work permits for illegal immigrants because that encourages more and more people to cross the borders illegally.

Here's a section of a current law, the Immigration and Nationality Act, which Joe and his Administration should be already enforcing much more strictly than they have been doing so.

What does Senator Hawliey mean by a "closed border"?

And btw, James Lankford is a conservative Senator....

Lankford is a political idiot, IMO.
Clearly, it is obvious that Senator Hawley is talking about closing the border to illegal immigration.

Which provision specifically?
Lankford is a political idiot, IMO.

Why?

Clearly, it is obvious that Senator Hawley is talking about closing the border to illegal immigration.

So why is he denying DHS 20 Billion dollars more for federal authorities — including the Homeland Security, Justice and State departments, as well as other agencies — to hire thousands of new Border Patrol agents and asylum officers, increase detention capacity, and invest in technology to combat the smuggling of fentanyl and other narcotics.

Or does he think the DHS has enough resources already? Hint, it doesn't.

All provisions of Section 212(f).

Lankford is a political idiot because he agreed with and helped write a bill that does more to keep illegal immigration at the current annual level of illegal immigration than it does to actually greatly reduce illegal immigration.

What do conservatives such as Senator Hawley and myself want?
We want the current laws to actually be enforced. We demand that the president and DHS to enact policies that very strongly discourage illegal immigration.

All these "demands" mean nothing without updates to the law and increased resources for enforcement.

This explanation from myattorneyusa.com is a very good one concerning section 212(f) from the Immigration Nationality Act.

Today, Senator Mitch McConnell made the decision that Republicans should block advancement of that new bill in the Senate.

Does Mitch give a reason, or is this just to please Leader Trump?
