  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Exploring the Lutheran Faith

I am exploring the Lutheran faith as a possible path for myself. I'm familiar with a few tenets of the LCMS and sense it would be an ideal fit. However, there is much to learn and I'd appreciate pointers on the topics I should consider. Books and other resources are welcome. Also, does the...

    "Lutheran Confessions: Anti-Catholicism Formalized"

Having grown up attending a Lutheran church (LCC), and having an interest in the "Ecumenical Movement", I found this article to be of significance to this topic: (from a Catholic source) "Lutheran Confessions: Anti-Catholicism Formalized" From the article (May 30, 2018): "All thoughtful...

UPDATE: Curiosity about the Catholic/Orthodox Church

Being a Protestant, although my Protestantism is weaker than it used to be, I was wondering how the Catholics come to the conclusion that they are the Church that Christ set up on Earth. Also, I am starting to believe that many of the Catholic practices are actually proper Christian behavior...

Starting a Confessional Lutheran Church in Iceland

Im heading a group that is trying to get a Confessional Lutheran Church started in Iceland, by way of the LCMS. Right now we are trying to put together a core group who would be interested in being part of a church plant. If you or someone you know lives in Iceland and is interested in a...

    Lutheranism and predestination

Hey there. As I understand it Lutherans believe in single predestination, that is, they believe that God has chosen people to be saved but hasn't chosen who's damned. They also believe that Jesus died for the sins of everyone, not just some people. How is it possible for those who are not...

    Lutheranism and free will

I am a Lutheran, but I have been very confused lately about Lutheran predestination. Lutherans believe that some people are predestined by God, and some aren't. Those who aren't do not necessarily go to hell. How are those that aren't predestined saved if they aren't predestined? They'd have to...

    Peace be with you!

Good morning all, Christ is risen! I'm Alex - a confessional Lutheran of the Missouri Synod. ELCA exposed? Confused...

Hey there, if this needs moved go ahead. I'm really unsure if I put this in the correct place. For a few months now, I have been going to an ELCA church. It is the Lutheran church nearest to me. I was made aware the ELCA is generally viewed as a more "liberal" Lutheran church. I don't mind...

Can you be forgiven for "eating to your harm"?

Hey guys. I'm getting an official membership at my Lutheran church so I can take communion. but a few weeks ago I was too excited so I took communion prematurely without permission to. they have closed communion so no one eats to their harm. so did I eat to my harm? If so, is it a forgivable...

I'm confused and guilty and I'm not sure what to do or how to feel

Hey everyone. I'm pretty new to this thread, so I'm sorry in advance for such a heavy question, but I think insights from other Christians might really help and somewhat calm the storm inside me. I'm in a bit of a tough spot in my faith and I'm not really sure how to handle it. I don't have a...

Protestant Denominational Differences (I want to hear from YOU!)

Hello everyone, This is something that has been weighing quite heavily on me of late. I was brought up in the Baptist Church, and have identified as such for my entire time here on Earth. Over the years, I have done modest amounts of research into the other denominations. This delving has been...

    Difference between LCMS & WELS

I am interested in learning the differences between WELS and LCMS. I have recently relocated to an area where there are congregations from both synods in town. The only Lutheran choice in the town I lived in prior was LCMS. So what would be a good source to learn the differences between them?
