  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    I'm Pro-Life, but I'm not Anti-Killing

So, is there an ethical mismatch in my stance, or can it be explained by differences in semantics?

Bouncing between Mr. Atheist and Girl Defined over Raunch Culture!

Are we too Raunchy in our culture? In relation to comments which Mr. Atheist [an atheist] and Girl Defined [two Christian gals] make in the video provided below, what do you think about the presence of 'Raunch' in your respective culture? And...here we go!!! Uh, huh!

    Gaming the Gospel

I've been slowly working on various projects that will hopefully turn out to eventually be video series, blog posts series or maybe even some kind of ebook. I decided to post here because I thought it would make a good discussion and maybe give me a few extra insights and thoughts (I already...

    Christian Privilege

Christian Privilege CF posters regularly complain that Christianity is oppressed in Western democratic society. Looked at realistically the opposite is true. Far from being oppressed, Christians have a significant degree of behavioural leeway in ignoring the rules and standards imposed on the...

Is nationalism a good or bad thing?

I believe that nationalism strengthens individual countries and brings everyone in the nation closer together. Do you think that nationalism is good for a country's people or not?

Which Perpetrator deserves our mercy: Preacher, Prostitute or Policeman?

In the following video, you'll find a professional interview conducted with a prostitute. The interview took place a few decades ago, and for those who aren't familiar with her story, she was known to have been involved with a particular preacher and, at the same time, with a particular...

A philosophical accounting of "Satan's little helpers" (i.e. Marketers)

I'll just state it up front: This thread is about the primed (and provocative) philosophy that informs both historically and presently the fields of marketing and advertising. What follows is a TED talk video with Sean Dromgoole, and he speaks about the whys and wherefores of how marketers...

Moral Outrage/Righteous Indignation--When is it appropriate???

Sometimes in this life, we open our eyes to the world around us and we see ethical inconsistencies and feel like we exist in some kind of moral and/or social disequilibrium. I suppose this is the case for just about any person, from any background, and of any political leaning, and it can be...

Your level of Ethical and Moral Integrity

So, it's like this: I came to the realization that I'm human. *gasp * This wasn't a recent realization, mind you, in fact it's been in the works in my brain for quite some time. But I think it's fair to say that it has been only more recently that I've begun to fully come to grips with just...

Abortion and the Clergy Consultation Service

This is my first post to the forum - hopefully it’s in the right place. Recently me and my wife were listening to an episode of the ‘Criminal’ podcast which covered the Clergy Consultation Service - a secret network of ministers, rabbis and nuns, possibly as many as 1400 individuals across the...

A Selfish Argument for Making the World a Better Place – Egoistic Altruism

Put here because this short (7:14) animation shows why what has happened in the past is not a good enough template for the future of humanity. So, right vs wrong, ethics and morality. I post this because I agree with the animation. I have for many years thought that by working to bring...

How Can We Ethically Prevent Child Sexual Abuse?

Since a few people in another thread wish to discuss this topic, I am creating a new one here, based on my other thread in the sister-forum for all members in philosophy and ethics. There you have it. What is the best way to end the epidemic of child sexual abuse, while remaining the most...

How should Christians respond in the face of apparent sin?

It's a questions that I've been debating within myself. How should a Christian react to the flagrant and blatant sin of an unbeliever? Perhaps some of you have insight along with scripture or personal experience. (Staff Edit) Let me give you a scenario to further illustrate my questions...

    Christianity and Vegetariansim

Hello all! I am a vegetarian- I'm not saying that this is the one right way to live, but I do believe that vegetarianism/veganism is currently the best way to improve climate change and animal rights. I'll quote a post from Focus on the Family (link below), about animal rights here: "In...

What is the most ethical way to end child sexual abuse?

There you have it. What is the best way to end the epidemic of child sexual abuse, while remaining the most ethical? In case you are unfamiliar with the issue, here are a few facts to get you started (though, remember, there is much more to this issue than can be summed up in a list of...

Is it moral to have hobbies?

I am really interested in the idea of starting a vinyl collection. I really love music. I want to build a collection of probably hundreds of vinyls. But the thing is... it'll cost lots of money. Not only would I have to spend money on vinyls, but I would also have to buy a turntable, speakers...

Are you for or against the death penalty?

On this issue, I agree with Pope Francis who leads the Catholic Church. Too many innocent people have been killed after being wrongly convicted and wrongly sentenced to the death penalty. On top of that, society does not have the right to take life to show that taking life is wrong. It is, to...

Knowing about, understanding, and pastorally caring for asexual persons

How do your churches respond, if it is acknowledged, pastorally to the spiritual and congregational needs of asexual parishioners? A conversation about relationships outside of marriage reminded me of this subject which is oft left undiscussed and little understood. Since civil marriage, in...

    The Euthyphro dilemma

For those who don't know what this dilemma is, it was proposed by Plato in his dialogue Euthyphro in which Socrates asks Euthyphro, "Is the pious loved by the gods because it is pious, or is it pious because it is loved by the gods?" Which basically means this to us now: "Is what is morally...
