Dear dhatura. We all know what is loving and kind and compassionate. God is Love, and God has made us in His image, and God proclaimed us GOOD. We all know selfless Love and the opposite: Selfish Love, which is POSSESSIVE.
When Jesus tells us of Love and Charity, He does not have to give us a full list of all the words meaning Love, because we KNOW. We might not know the very seldom-used names for Love, i.e. Agape, Philio and some others, but God wants us to learn to love as children do, simply and easily to understand. Jesus tells us in Matthew 22: 35-40: " The first and great Commandment is:
" Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Children will know all about Loving and Caring: Love God first and above all, and love all you know and all you meet: AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF.
Jesus has promised us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love, also. ( Matthew 7: 7-10) " Ask and ye shall receive," then thank God and share all Love and Joy with all around us. Keep asking God and thanking God, then share all Love and Joy with your neighbour. Easily understood, and getting more and more joyful to follow. Love is a Christian`s
strong weapon, with love we will overcome all enmity and wrong behaviour.
We mighy stumble and forget at times, but then we ask God to forgive us
and carry on Loving and Caring. Jesus our Saviour will help and guide us:
JESUS IS THE WAY. Love will gradually change us into he men and women
which God wants to be with for eternity: " Born Again."
I say this with love, dhatura. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

I'm feeling confused, for many reasons.
Firstly, while working on a homework problem, I found that I'm very naive and simple-minded and that my way of thinking is the most direct one. A classmate told me that that's also how I handle things in life. I feel so desperately in need of change. I want to be someone more sophisticated and maturer.
Secondly, my love life is a mess. I think I have low emotional quotient (EQ). I think I desperately need to change that as well.
Thirdly, I'm too self-centered and want to become someone selfless and in God. Can I succeed in a transformation? And how?
Fourthly, I'm tactless and admire those figures in the Bible who are tactful, like Abraham, Jacob and even Tamar. But a church friend told me those people are not what God loves to see. Their tactics don't please God. Is that true? Are they good examples?
Thanks for your response. I'm really in need of some clarifications here.

dhatura,

Do not focus on you and what you do or do not do! Take your focus and put it on Jesus! Study God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus to you.

2 Corinthians 3:16-18
16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (NKJV)

As you behold the glory of Jesus and His finished work at the cross, you are transformed into His image from glory to glory, by the Holy Spirit! As you keep your focus on Him, you are effortlessly transformed into His image!

Each time you recognize that you have been transformed a bit more into His image, you have occasion to celebrate how good and faithful He is to finish what He has begun in you!

How others behave is between them and God. Do not judge them, simply let the love of God that resides in your heart shine.

Hi Queen of the Highway, thanks for your response.
But my church friend explains it as this: she said God doesn't necessarily choose people who are more righteous. She said God sometimes use people who are wicked for His purposes, implying that Abraham and Jacob and Tamar had favour in God's eye not necessarily because of their righteousness. I guess she disapproves of how they do things. What do you think?

Greetings Dhatura; You seem to be doing ok for your self; Understanding Abraham was the man that is in the Hall Of Fame; He was chosen to be the father of all nations; a man much Favored of God.
I have a heart for people that is searching; Lets start with Basics. The name of Jesus is Very Important to Know where your power is for all things.

God has highly exalted Jesus; and has freely bestowed on Him; the name that is above every name; That in the name of Jesus every knee must bow; in heaven and on earth and under the earth; And every tongue frankly; and openly; confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord; to the glory of God the Father; Jesus said; what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe; according to the working of His mighty power; which He worked in Christ; when He raised Him from the dead; and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places; far above all principality and power and might; and dominion; and every name that is named; not only in this age but also in that which is to come. Dear timf. I like what you are saying about the kind of person I should be as a Christian. May I, however, point out what Jesus Himself is telling a Lawyer in Matthew 22: 35-40: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it:
Love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus points out this great fact: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." God wants our Love above everything else. God is Love and God made us ( Mankind) in
His imagine. In the Garden of Eden God lived together with Adam and Eve,
( our proto-types) quite happily: UNTIL Temptation in the guise of the Serpent, appeared. We all know from the Bible what happened then. Adam and Eve succumbed to the crafty lie of the Serpent, and ate of the forbidden
Tree. Adam and Eve were banned to Earth, and instead of repenting, leading a more obedient life, they grew ever farther and farther away from God.
In time Jesus came and showed us God, as God really is: our Loving Heavenly Father who wants us back again. Jesus told us what God wants from us:
In Matthew 22: 35-40: 1) Love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds. 2) Love our neighbour as ourselves. Jesus also gave us this
true fact: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets"
God wants our Love, freely given and No conditions tagged on. Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love, also.
Jesus told us to: " ask and ye shall receive." Matthew 7: 7-10"
We have to ask God, then thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour: i.e. all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends. We have to keep asking and receiving and sharing all Love and Joy, as well as the helping hand when needed. God will see our sincere efforts, and God will bless us. Jesus our Saviour will help and guide us:JESUS IS THE WAY.
I say this with love, timf. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.
