Ah wonderful thread that I won't be flamed for saying that I don't like Christmas, I see no Biblical reason for it ( actually the opposite)
That is my reason.
Here are some others
I hate how all of a sudden people want to know what you are doing ie at shops etc.
I hate when people say "oh you can't be alone at Christmas..... like what about all the other days of the year?
The implied obligation of reciprocal gift or card giving.
(give freely and cheerfully at anytime or not at all)
I hate the pressure put on those who can least afford it.
After all that preparation and " warm toasty feelings" the very next day everything is back the same, nothing has changed but a lot of money spent, high expectations but then the realisation of the same problems and going by what is documented, this time of year (Christmas and New Year) is the highest time for suicide.
I once took part in all of that too but quite a few years ago after really looking into it, gave it all away. It was the most freeing thing I have done, yet trying to tell people I no longer celebrated it and why, brought a barrage of arguments or simple unbelief that I "really" didn't mean it.
What I find the saddest thing of all is that anyone would think that it would please God by taking part in all this because when Jesus was born as a baby there was no room for Him then, as it continued throughout His life: and the world, sadly, has no room for Him now.
I agree with Biblehighligters post.
