What is wrong with a virginity pledge. It is not misogynistic as both parties make the commitment. Though I don't understand the tradition I cannot see a problem as it is committing to something that seems like a good thing to do in the light of out of marriage sex and all the other problems associated with teen sex.
It seems there is an outrage mentality at almost anything today. Though I don't agree with the extent to which this rapper has gone to ensure his daughter is safe and conforms to his ideas I do support a parent having some control of their children. After all parents are the legal guardians of children and teens under age. There are many examples of how they control their behavior such as stopping them from going to certain places, making them come home by a certain time. Part of this is monitoring their behavior. There are many examples of society controlling teens such as curfews etc. It is only natural that a concerned parent will want to know and sometimes overstep the line in wanting to protect their child.
All these individual rights ideologies can get a little out of hand and control themselves where we allow too many rights to young people who have not earn't them or are not ready for them. This has caused many young people to now defy authority and they play on the fact that no one can tell them what to do anymore by citing their rights. As a result we are now seeing the growth of defiance and a lack of respect for authority.
I would be more concerned if a parent is not monitoring and disciplining their child and allowing them to do things that will lead to problems. I think the basis from where this rapper is coming from is love and it is not about control but love. People just see or hear of someone doing something associated with control and rights and immediately jump on this rights thing and label everyone as a control freak and misogynistic especially if its a male and start bagging men. But this situations seems like an act of love perhaps gone a bot wrong. But perhaps no uncommon in some ways to how a concerned parent may act. How often as a parent have we checked on our children to see if they are not up to no good. Sure trust is important but nowadays its hard to tell.
Nowadays everything is about control, the right to not be controlled. I laugh at this sometimes as those who really think we are free today are deluding themselves. We are more under control than ever. The same politics that supposedly give us our rights on freedoms that people want to push are the same ones that deny us our freedom. There are more intrusions into our private lives than ever asking us to prove ourselves, our health status, age, income, employment, are we a drinker or smoker, what is our financial history, have we ever been in trouble with the law, had a traffic violation, been married, divorced etc etc. You cant do anything today without big brother watching over us. The big difference is this rapper seems to be doing it out of love and I doubt very much that the government or some big corp is doing things because they are concerned about us.
