Not sure about the other issues, but they should just make public bathrooms coed. Just have individual stalls. Lots of places do this already and they have no problems. It would put the whole thing to rest.

What places do that? I mean, single occupant bathrooms obviously have to be coed, but large public bathrooms I've never seen.

In restroom design, private is the new public. I hadn't thought of it before, but there turn out to be a number of people who could use this.
Now that's not a bad idea. I'm all for a little extra privacy in the bathroom. Eliminates a lot of the aspects of public bathrooms I hated ("Can people see me through that gap on the hinge side of the stall door??")

How about if we just don’t address it? When referring to men vs women, when deciding which public restroom or shower facility to use, when unsure to call someone a ma'am or sir, instead of assuming gender, why not just assume sex? The difference? Sex refers to biology, (XX vs XY chromosomes, sex organs, etc) where as gender refers to perceived social roles based on sex.

When I speak to people, if I use the pronoun he or she, I’m referring to their sex not their gender. I’m making an assumption of their biology, not whatever confusion they might have going on inside of their heads. If a biological woman identifies as a man, she shouldn’t assume I am addressing her identification when I call her she, this woman should assume I am referring to her biology.

Does this make sense? Your thoughts?

well maybe just easier to drop the Mister, Miss, Mrs. , ma'am, sir, etc .... and just address everyone as you or person.

ex ... may I help you
Do you know that person
Go talk to that person over there
The restrooms are over there

Suppose you are trying to describe to the police the person who robbed you?
It is easier to change how words are defined rather than trying to get rid of words.

I never suggested ignoring people. Why is my solution not a good one?

Unless I've misunderstood you, your solution is precisely to ignore people - ignoring their complaints about not wanting to identify with their biological sex.

When people have a gender reassignment surgery, what do you suppose it is that they're changing? They don't undergo a surgery to change perceived societal roles. They undergo surgery in order to artificially "become" a different biological sex.

What does it mean to identify with a biological sex? And how does my suggestion prevent people from doing this?

well in that case it wouldn't matter because you are not addressing the person face to face

well ... not sure about that ... there's like 92 or more gender definitions.
My suggestion does not prevent people from identifying with various genders, I'm just saying they should assume a stranger is referring to their sex not their gender when addressed, and public facilities is in reference to their sex, not their gender when they wish to use.
