God did not ask Joseph Smith to reject the Bible nor did the angel Moroni. The Bible is mostly right but it does disagree with itself on occasion. One of these is:
(New Testament | John 1:18)
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
We know of an assuredly that Adam did indeed see God. Jacob also saw God:
(Old Testament | Genesis 33:10)
10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me. There is one sure way to live with God:
(New Testament | John 14:23 - 24)
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
No--God did not ask JS to do that--nor would He ever say that. This Moroni character, however, did! He told JS he was not to join any of them, for they were all wrong and then proceeds to tell him that he (JS) was going to have the truth!
The God of the OT is Jesus Christ. That is who created Adam and Eve and Lucifer and everything---that is who they saw---God the Father has never been seen face to face. And we are not told in what form Jesus He was seen.
