Romans 8:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

I guess you skipped over all the rest of the chapter before and after that verse? It is all the word of the same God, you know.

Jesus said before Pentecost that His disciples did not Beloit this world. They did not live by the flesh and they were His friends. Romans 8 says those who are of the flesh are hostile towards God and no one of the flesh can please God. The apostles were not living of the flesh they were living of the Spirit. Not to mention countless people even all the way back to Genesis received and lived by the Spirit.

  1. The Spirit of God worked on the hearts of people at Noah’s time (Genesis 6:3)
  2. Joseph had the “Spirit of God“ in him (Genesis 41:38).
  3. The seventy elders received the Holy Spirit and “when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied” (Numbers 11:25).
  4. King Saul had “the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied” (1 Samuel 10:10)
  5. The Holy Spirit came upon Mary the mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:18).
  6. John the Baptist was “filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his others’ womb” (Luke 1:15).
  7. Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary…Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost” (Luke 1:41).

When the men asked Jesus a “simple “ question as to which man would be the wife of a woman legimately married many times, he didn’t give a “simple” answer because they didn’t understand the foundational matter at all and he only told the truth. That’s the problem. Jesus gave a lot of warnings and God doesn’t have only two words to describe our choices, sin or non-sin.
Problem is, whether unforgiveness is a sin or not is quite simple to answer. You have made the mistake of conflating one with the other. Your refusal to answer this simple question is of course your prerogative.

The answer as to which husband she should have was a simple one, yet he didn’t answer according to their assumptions. He didn’t answer who had sinned, the parents or the blind man either. Their binary thinking did not capture him. Simple questions but he didn’t answer any of them as asked.

You failed to explain away Rom 8:13 in your own words which unfortunatelyremains problematic for you. Give it a shot why don't you?

As explained earlier, you are conflating scriptures which makes for poor exegesis. Suffice to say at this point, we agree to disagree.

I am not. I understand your thinking on this is too binary, like those who do not understand matters as God does. Jesus rarely answered binary questions that assumed facts not in evidence. I am borrowing his wisdom because I understand his thinking. He was warning, not detailing sin, yes or no. This seems to be a difficult concept, warning and not merely saying this is sin and this is not sin.

The concept of Jesus warning seems to be out of reach. Too bad. His warnings are important.

Yes, unforgiveness is a sin and that is precisely why Jesus warned against it. Warnings are not to be ignored. Simple logic.

It is if the words you choose to express that idea are insulting.

You are a total sweetheart, but I don't understand your complaint. What exactly do you consider insulting and what exactly do you suggest instead?

I guess you’re not happy unless all that Jesus said can be put in one of TWO boxes. Makes life easier, I guess. Not very complex but simple.

Gladly.,.you said, the guy was “babbling” instead of “talking” or “discussing” which are neutral words. You said he needs to go and learn instead of acknowledging what he does know supplying what he is missing.

Now the poster you discuss seems to be a simple thinker, I admit. Likes binary yes or no, black or white answers. This is a problem as there is more than one kind of answer on many subjects. But he doesn’t babble. And he does know some things.

Do you see what I mean?

(This btw, is what I think a real moderator with the heart and mind of Christ world do when reading an inappropriate post instead of a tyrannical ax approach. The mods here use tyranny and not charity.)

Ok, so I use "babble" as a synonym for "talking nonsense". There is no insult in either expression. Both merely define a lack of precision in discourse. Conclusion: He needs to go and learn. I only advise people to study the bible, confirming for themselves what people tell them it says.

I grant that people often feel insulted when a mistake is pointed out. That is not an insult on my part, it is their reluctance to accept correction.

Not correct. Babbling is the description of baby noise. Talking nonsense is not the same.

Try this, would you feel the same if A would say, “you’re just babbling” and B says “your talking nonsense?”
Conclusion: He needs to go and learn. I only advise people to study the bible, confirming for themselves what people tell them it says.
People don’t study the Bible to have in their minds what was in the mind of the writer these days. They find someone who tickles their ears with some make you feel good theology and find the few single lines that support that (as long as one edits the rest out.)

So “study the Bible” means read again those few verses that comfort you in your chosen theology. This became clear to me when those who hold false theology (like OSAS) always use the exact same single verses and the exact same arguments. They recite, they don’t think.

So you think you are saying “read and learn” and they hear “read again those few sentences in the Bible that support your position.”
I grant that people often feel insulted when a mistake is pointed out. That is not an insult on my part, it is their reluctance to accept correction.
That’s actually rare. But none accept that their thoughts are “babbling” which is like “goo goocha bababa honino.”

Well, now we are down to the actual problem: people look at the pages while they recite what they prefer to believe, and some, such as you, take offense when the mistakes are pointed out. All I can say to that is if you don't like what the book says you can complain to the God who wrote it.

Notice Luke 6:36-37 is a similar passage. I believe forgiving others is a necessity for receiving salvation. It has to do with loving others, having compassion and mercy.

“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. "Do not judge, and you will not be judged; and do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; pardon, and you will be pardoned.”
‭‭LUKE‬ ‭6:36-37‬ ‭NASB‬‬
Forgiving others IS NOT a necessity for salvation.

Do you believe we can enter heaven without being forgiven for our sins?
That wasn't in question.
However, the forgiveness of others to obtain salvation as necessary was.
In which case that would be 100% incorrect.

You really really need to read your bible and stop making up stuff you prefer to believe.

Romans 10:9-10 King James Version (KJV)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Forgiveness has nothing to do with it.
