Romans 8:13 King James Version (KJV)
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
I guess you skipped over all the rest of the chapter before and after that verse? It is all the word of the same God, you know.
Jesus said before Pentecost that His disciples did not Beloit this world. They did not live by the flesh and they were His friends. Romans 8 says those who are of the flesh are hostile towards God and no one of the flesh can please God. The apostles were not living of the flesh they were living of the Spirit. Not to mention countless people even all the way back to Genesis received and lived by the Spirit.
- The Spirit of God worked on the hearts of people at Noah’s time (Genesis 6:3)
- Joseph had the “Spirit of God“ in him (Genesis 41:38).
- The seventy elders received the Holy Spirit and “when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied” (Numbers 11:25).
- King Saul had “the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied” (1 Samuel 10:10)
- The Holy Spirit came upon Mary the mother of Jesus (Matthew 1:18).
- John the Baptist was “filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his others’ womb” (Luke 1:15).
- Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary…Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost” (Luke 1:41).
