A test to know if someone does not know Him is if they do not keep His commandments. v.4
Just something to think about:Thank you for understanding.
I didn't put that verse up to be contentious. But on another website, someone kept telling me: We must read the bible as a cohesive wholeThank you for understanding.
I didn't put that verse up to be contentious. But on another website, someone kept telling me: We must read the bible as a cohesive whole
He said that, because, at that time I was plucking verses out at random to debate with him. As we rarely saw eye to eye, I ignored, at the time his repeated statement. But, over time I came to see the wisdom of what he said. The bible's a big book, and to bring all scripture into alignment is far from easy. I don't think I have ever come across anyone who has succeeded, but we can always endeouver to get closer can't we
In your view, it is more preferable to tell a teenager if they commit sin they are of the devil and have never known Christ?
You see, you wouldn't do that would you, so there is a world of difference between the reality of your life, and what you state here
Paul tells us the law arouses sinful passions in us when we live under it.
For he goes on to say we die to the law − we have been released from the law (of righteousness) as Christians and serve in the new way of the Spirit, not the old way of the written code (the law). Why does he say the law arouses sinful passions for those living under it? ... That is why Paul tells us the law arouses sinful passions in us if we live under it.
It seems you disagree with Jesus, again, as well as with John If WE(WE Christians, John is including himself) claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us
You've got the gist of the New Covenant just fine, no problem. However, it is not the Ten Commandments, it is the Law of Liberty, the commandments of Jesus - to believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love your neighbor. So, here again, that is John's belief too so you can't use any books written by John where he uses the word "commandments." The law written on our hearts is the royal law - Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor. Jesus is God.
The only problem comes when you say I must keep the 7th day, or I tell you, you must only believe in Jesus. Romans 14:5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. Now, you've said what you have to say, and I likewise. I love you, brother
As far as the the term "LAW OF LIBERTY" is concerned God's WORD links OBEDIENCE to GOD's LAW by FAITH that works by LOVE as FREEDOM from the BONDAGE OF SIN...
JOHN 8:31-36 [31], Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; [32], And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. [33], They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in BONDAGE to any man: how say you, You shall be made free? [34], Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, WHOSOEVER COMMITS SIN SERVANT OF SIN. [35], And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the Son stays ever. [36], IF THE SON SHALL MAKE YOU FREE YOU SHALL BE FREE INDEED.
Jesus calls those who practice sin as the servants of sin SIN and those who commit SIN as being in BONDAGE to sin.
GALATIANS 4:1-5; 9 [1], Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differs nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; [2], But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. [3], Even so we, when we were children, were in BONDAGE under the elements of the world: [4], But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, [5], To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons....
[9], But now, after that you have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn you again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto you desire again to be in BONDAGE?
HEBREWS 2:14-15 [14], For as much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; [15] And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to BONDAGE.
Paul calls those who are in sin subject to BONDAGE..
2 PETER 2:19 [19], While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in BONDAGE.
Jesus, Paul and Peter all relate SIN to being in BONDAGE or being a SERVANT to sin..
ROMANS 6:17-23 [17], But God be thanked, that you were the SERVANTS OF SIN, BUT YOU HAVE OBEYED FROM THE HEART THAT FORM OF DOCTINE THAT WAS DELIEVERED TO YOU. [18], BEING MADE FREE FROM SIN, you became the SERVANTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. [19], I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as you have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity to iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness to holiness. [20], For when you were the SERVANTS OF SIN, you were free from righteousness. [21], What fruit had you then in those things whereof you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. [22], But now being made FREE FROM SIN, and become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life. [23], For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Jesus explains that SIN starts in the mind (thoughts and feelings) before they become action..
MATTHEW 5:20-22 [20], For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. [21], You have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: [22], But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment..
and again..
MATTHEW 5:27-28 [27], You have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not commit adultery: [28], But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
.................
CONCLUSION: He that commits SIN is a SERVANT OF SIN and is in BONDAGE TO SIN and SIN originates in the heart (thoughts and feelings).
.................
SALVATION IS FREEDOM FROM SIN AND THE BONDAGE OF SIN
JOHN 8:34-36 [34], Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, WHOSOEVER COMMITS SIN SERVANT OF SIN. [35], And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the Son stays ever. [36], IF THE SON SHALL MAKE YOU FREE YOU SHALL BE FREE INDEED.
ROMANS 6:17-18 [17], But God be thanked, that you were the SERVANTS OF SIN, BUT YOU HAVE OBEYED FROM THE HEART THAT FORM OF DOCTINE THAT WAS DELIEVERED TO YOU. [18], BEING MADE FREE FROM SIN, you became the SERVANTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
.................
WHAT IS THE SERVANT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS?
Hebrew Strong - H6664; צדק; tsedeq; tseh'-dek RIGHTEOUSNESS from H6663; the right (natural, moral or legal); also (abstractly) equity or (figuratively) prosperity: - X even, (X that which is altogether) just (-ice), ([un-]) right (-eous) (cause, -ly, -ness).
RIGHTEOUSNESS = Right doing or to do that which is right morally
God's LAW is the KNOWLEDGE of GOOD and EVIL.
God's WORD defines RIGHTEOUSNESS as OBEDIENCE to God's LAW...
PSALMS 119:172 [172], My tongue shall speak of your word: for ALL YOUR COMMANDMENTS ARE RIGHTEOUSNESS.
and SIN as breaking it...
ROMANS 3:20 [20] Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLDGE OF SIN.
ROMANS 7:7 [7], What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. No, I HAD NOT KNOWN SIN, BUT BY THE LAW: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, You shall not covet.
1 JOHN 3:4 [4], WHOSOEVER COMMITS SIN TRANSGRESSES ALSO THE LAW; FOR SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW.
JAMES 2:11 [11], For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, YOU ARE BECOME A TRANSGRESSOR OF GOD'S LAW.
.................
CONCLUSION: BEING MADE FREE FROM SIN means to be OBEDIENT TO GOD'S LAW which is RIGHTOUESNESS BY FAITH in God's WORD that works by LOVE by walking in God's SPIRIT. Salvation is from the BONDAGE and SLAVERY of SIN. WE are now the servants of RIGHTOUESSNESS.
ROMANS 5:21[21], That as sin has reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
ROMANS 6:16 [16] Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
.................
WHAT IS THE LAW OF LIBERTY?
JAMES 2:8-12 [8], If you fulfill the ROYAL LAW according to the scripture, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORE AS YOURSELF YOU DO WELL: [9], But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are convicted of the law as transgressors. [10], For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.[11], For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet you kill, you are become a transgressor of the law. [12], So speak, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the LAW OF LIBERTY.
[18], BEING MADE FREE FROM SIN, you became the SERVANTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS <OBEDIENCE to God's LAW Ps 119:172>.
.................
CONCLUSION: The LAW of LIBERTY is OBEDIENCE to God's LAW (10 Commandments by FAITH that works by LOVE through walking in the SPIRIT.
.................
There is no problem, as RIGHTEOUSNESS is OBEDIENCE by FAITH and walking in God's SPIRIT to the LAW of LIBERTY (10 Commandments) as shown through the scriptures above.
................
You know 1stcenturylady, all of the scripture shared here with you and to everyone for that matter is only ever written in LOVE...
................
SIN is the breaking of God's Commandments (James 2:9-11; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4)
Those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN because they are still in BONDAGE to SIN and are SERVANTS of SIN and have not been BORN again to be FREE of the SINS they KNOW about.
................
God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)
Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)
There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.
Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?
In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).
Notice:Just something to think about:
Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in(in not out of) the kingdom of heaven Matt5:19
If I may ask, since when is the Ten Commandments of God ever "shadow"? The scripture says:... I don't keep the day, but I do believe strongly that Jesus is my Sabbath rest everyday. He speaks to me, and if ever He wants me to keep His shadow, I certainly will. ...
Terrible exegesisNotice:
Matthew 5:19 KJB - Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Who is doing the "call[ing]" "great" or "least"? It is those actually "in" the Kingdom who are doing the "call[ing]", not by those outside of it.
John 3:5 KJB - Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Acts 5:32 KJB - And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
The wicked who do not keep God's commandments are called the "least" [lowest, base persons] by those "in" the Kingdom, that is by those already there [ie unfallen angels, etc] or are at some point entered in [Christians, etc].
Those who do God's commandments are called "great" by those "in" the Kingdom, that is by those already there [ie unfallen angels, etc] or are at some point entered in [Christians, etc].
Well as I have continually stated the born again Christian cannot hide from Gods laws for they are in their most inward parts, it is obvious why you passed such a silly comment. No point in responding to the rest of your post, just a rehash of what you have previously said,#
It sounds like youre saying hide from God's LAW it will show you what sin is. This is not what the scriptures are saying whatsoever.
.
If you were not someone who only had the ability to see the letter itself you would be able to discern, as would istcenturylady that the Christian is delivered from a lifestyle of sin. That is what they die to and are dead to. The Christian is not sin free. They are a work in progress all their life. I can only assume, as you agree with istcenturylady you must also believe the Corinthian church did not commit sin. Hopeless I'm afraid And, if you could summon up the courage/humility to be honest, you would admit you commit sin also. In my view, it is better to be honest, not just reel the partial letter from the top of our heads that is devoid of the reality of our lives. Not at all. We are all SINNERS in need of a Savior this is true and without Jesus we can do nothing at all but sin.
God's WORD however does not teach that a Chirstian continues in SIN. Those who CONTINUE in KNOWN UNREPENTANT SIN will be LOST (Hebrews 10:26-27; Hebrews 6:4-8).
Salvation is from SIN not in SIN (John 8:31-36).
1 JOHN 1:8-10
[8], If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
All we are without Jesus are sinners and all we can do without Jesus is sin because we have a sinfaul human nature. ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God there is none righteous no not one (Romans 3:23; Romans 3:10)
[9], If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God's promise of forgiveness and CLEANSING from SIN.
[10], If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
If we say we have not sinned is past tense not future...
If we do sin in the future we have an advocate...
1 JOHN 2:1-3 [1], My little children, these things write I to you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
It is not God's desire for us to sin however once we come to him in FAITH... hence the scriptures that follow..
[2], And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
[3], And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
[4], He that said, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1 JOHN 3:6-9 [6], [6], Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins has not seen him, neither known him. [7], Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. [8], He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. [9], Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his nature remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. [10], In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother.
